Delicate fingers danced over the harpsichord as effortlessly as the music flowed out from the soul of the princess. Her eyes closed she parted her lips singing the first verse of the song she had chosen to open the contest with. Martine rarely did perform for so many although this was far from the most popular event at the bardic contest. Music to her was more than just simple and sweet sound, it was a very rare glimpse into the heart of the secretive woman. To hear the Princess sing was to see her in her most honest form, but it was also her most powerful…
As the song and her music came to a close the lovely woman slowly went to stand from her instrument to graciously curtsy before the crowd in thanks for their applause. Slowly rising the young woman took stayed silent for a moment before going to take a step forward in order to address the crowd, “Thank you, my lords and ladies, for your appreciation and for joining us for an evening to celebrate the talents within our own kingdom. I also must offer up my thanks for those who have so kind in offering to entertain us with their talents upon this stage. Without the performers and the audience we could not make this event as wonderful as it is.” Pausing Martine offered up a kind smile before continuing, “Now I will no longer delay our enjoyment any further...I do hope everyone enjoys the evening and make sure to cast your lot for the performer who calls to your own soul at the end…”

There was a part of the young Princess who wished she would be doing more than an opening performance to welcome the both the audience and participants. Yet as host she thought the role of a performer would be highly inappropriate thus she would sit with the other judges she had proposed for the competition. Of course being a good host for the competition wasn’t the only reason why Martine sat out of the competition, she wanted to see what talents were hidden within the families at court. If she were to create her guild having members of noble birth become invested members would serve to build it’s popularity. Not that she would be opening the door to much of the common people, but the high-ranking merchant classes would certainly be a possibility if she were to be realistic.
As with any performance, there was an intermission period to give both audience and performers a break from the stresses of the stage. Court minstrels played on the background to continue setting the mood of the event as most took the opportunity to stand up from their seats, stretch their legs, have a drink, and perhaps even mingle amongst the crowd. Smoothing out the skirt of her lavender dress Princess Martine herself rose from her elevated platform that was there for the judges deciding she too wished for a drink of some sort. Descending gracefully from the tall staircase blue eyes surveyed the crowds curious as to who was in attendance...
