The first few days in Duefuemi had passed nearly in a blur for Elena, trying to learn all the names and faces, the layout of Drakespire and the routine of the Montefiore family. Fortunately, each of Niccolo's sisters had a unique personality, making it significantly easier for her to remember which was which. The servants were proving a little more challenging, yet the Dowager Duchess had been kind enough to teach her a few tricks to recalling the names that accompanied each face. Elena enjoyed the days she had begun to spend in the Dowager's company, along with some of her daughters, learning the duties that were the province of the Duchess of Seravino.
A brief visit had also been paid to the aging, infirm Duke. He had been kind as well, though she had not lingered in his presence, not wanting to tax his strength. Thanks to the Dowager and her own maid, Elena learned that the old Duke's care was primarily the province of Lady Allegra, something that gave her a new perspective on the capricious young lady. They would have to spend more time together soon, she decided. Which reminded Elena in turn that she had not spent any time in her cousin Sebastian's company since their arrival.
Deciding to change that, she had asked one of the servants the night prior to deliver a little note to her cousin, inviting him to join her for breakfast and to take stock of their situation. Sebastian had very good eyes and open ears, sent not only as her family's escort but hopefully to grant Elena a little help in getting settled. The rooms into which she'd been settled had a pretty, open air sitting area where breakfast waited for them both. Standing at the rail overlooking the courtyard, she waited for her cousin to arrive.
