Tory saw no reason to beat around the bush and allow Silvia room to wiggle out of answering the question. A direct question was far more effective in pinning his younger sister down and obtaining an answer, he knew. Prepared for nearly anything, he nodded with a touch of pride in his face that Silvia sought to hone her skills, pleased to know she'd made such progress with her fencing. That was, until she revealed that her opponent proved himself not only to be a sore loser but lacking in courtesy as well. Then the eyes narrowed coolly, his face turning stony. The man dared to lay hands on his sister and out of anger?
He shot Carlotta a look; their father might not challenge the young man to a duel, but he would assuredly have a few words about his less than savory conduct. Tory did not miss that their sister failed to reveal her opponent's name, aware that she likely did so deliberately to prevent him from reacting precipitously. Without a name, how could he deliver appropriate chastisement? Or Antonin, as the head of the family?
Before he could object to his sister's perspective, Carlotta asked the next obvious question. Tory made himself calm, wanting to hear what Silvia said as to why she felt it was her own foolish choice, rather than the scoundrel who imposed himself on her. The look shot in his direction turned his expression pugnacious. Did Carlotta truly want him to voice his thoughts on this? Very well, but it was on her head.
He shrugged, retorting, "He was probably looking to punish her, impose a level of the humiliation he felt at losing to a female. It was done out of anger and embarrassment, by the sounds of it. I suggest you keep your distance from this man in the future, sister. If his anger conquers his manners, then he is not to be trusted." Truth was truth, however unkind it might seem... but Carlotta had encouraged him to speak.
