Arriving as part of the original colonists from the far eastern Kingdom, the family that is known now as the Tesoros settled with their Montefiore lords in the mountains, reminding them of their original home. Traditionally miners, they found a valley nestled into the heart of the soaring peaks, claiming it as their homestead with their lord’s blessing.
When the volcano spread its ash over the eastern part of the lands, they fled to the north with the Montefiores to safety, leaving their beloved mountains behind. During that time, the family took the chance to acquire new knowledges and trades, though their hearts would always remain with the rocky outcroppings that comprised the eastern ranges.
Finally able to return, they determined that the valley previously inhabited collapsed on itself, compelling them to establish a new homestead. The Triune smiled upon them, providing another valley with an abundant water source, surrounded by the mines they would soon establish. The homestead was eventually called Pistoia, the family’s permanent home.
Exploration of the mountains revealed a wealth of ore to be refined and traded - iron, tin, copper and nickel, establishing the family’s stock in trade. For generations, the family protected and defended their stakes on the peaks, sending the ore to the Montefiores for their forges; however, they soon discovered that the mountains held another bounty - gemstones of fine quality.
In those dull, dust-coated, unrefined pieces of color, the family decided to expand into additional trade, one for which they are now most well known: jewels - mining, cutting and polishing, and eventually, jewelry design. When their Montefiore lord was named Duke, the family presented him with his ducal coronet and his Duchess with an exquisite tiara; both pieces are still in Montefiore hands, protected as heirlooms and evidence of their long-standing legacy in Seravino.
As a reward for their generosity, loyalty and fine craftsmanship, the Duke elevated the family to the titles of Count, naming their city Pistoia in honor of the mountains and granted the family a new name: Tesoro, the jewel makers. They have remained so ever since, a family that prefers to let their wares speak for them for the last several centuries.
A largely insular and aloof family, the Tesoros enjoy their reputation, often demanding that those who wish custom pieces come to Pistoia; they do not often leave their valley, deeming it too dangerous to do so in light of what lies nestled within the mountains. Of all the counties and regions in Archades, there is no debating that this is the most heavily fortified and defended. Those who arrive at the borders of the county must present credentials before they are permitted to cross, and those who seek entry into the castle find that all the more challenging - if they do not arrive with documents bearing the House seal, they do not cross the threshold.
In spite of that tendency, some few Tesoros do leave the valley on matters of family business and to represent their interests at the court of their Duke, as well as traveling to Bordelaix on rare occasions. As a family, they are closely-knit and extremely protective of each other, but especially of the designers.
Unlike most in Seravino, the majority of the Tesoro family are gifted with fair features - blond hair, blue or green eyes, and pale complexions. The women tend towards the smaller side, while the men are of medium build.
