Mateo nodded as his cousin suggested a mountain of work was ahead of them. This much was true, for anyone with ambition the time was ripe for the taking. And his cousin reassured him not to be terribly concerned that he hadn't ascerted his nobility of late. This was good, seeing as this was the man whose House he represented while here. "This is true. I do enjoy wearing my work but perhaps that is just to flatter myself," he was grinning. He couldn't and wouldn't help it, he was proud of his craft.
He agreed that it was fortunate to find good health for all in their family of late. Since the unfortunate event that had taken life, Mateo was most anxious about any ill fate. He wondered exactly what Niccolo meant of Allegra and where her ambitions lay these days. Truthfully he probably aught to spend a day or two consecutively at their home in Bordelaix to get himself centered on these matters. Elisabeta to be wed was exciting news though wouldn't be for a time yet; his cousin did not say she had already found such a match but that she was looking. And as for Joanna, he wondered if she too would be matched soon.
"Good, good," he repeated and nodded along as he soaked in the news. "Have any of your other cousins or uncles come?" He hadn't heard that his own family had made the trip, but perhaps a cousin or two was skulking about. He didn't think many were interested in Court and much less that filthy of Deveraux, but then maybe he was misimagining the scenario.
Mateo's eyes narrowed as he heard the crackle of anger and passion simultaneously in his cousin's voice while he provided narration for the situation at hand. A single eyebrow shot up and his mouth was left agape in surprise to hear his cousin was all ahead with this Lord Delamara. "She... she must clearly be under some influence. Will you be keeping her here for the duration, then?" He wondered if keeping her in the capital, around the Lord of her heart's content, was a wise move if they did not want to encourage things further in this direction. And then, if this was some trick, better not to play into their hand. But Mateo knew his place and that was hardly one of advising or dictating to Niccolo, and was careful not to be too bold in his words.
"Wasn't there an engagement to be had...?" He asked, offhandedly as he seemed to recall something about a betrothal, but then perhaps he had himself confused.
Meanwhile, Mateo's thoughts were rummaging for any information he might have picked up about the Delamara of late, to see what this latest twist of his cousin's interests might mean, and if his cousin were to consider allowing this should the young Count figure out his tongue and manners.
