Joseph had to make a point to take another slice of food into his mouth and grind his teeth into that rather than allow the flare of anger and irritation show in his eyes. He looked to his food, parting it, picking the next thing to eat, before he even bothered to look up again. Tamara had invited now Matthew along for business, business she clearly wasn't about to tell him the details of, business he also clearly wasn't wanting him to come for. Whatever she was hiding, it made him all the more suspicious, because something that was for the good of Vielha she could do in the plain transparency before him. He wouldn't try to undo good work for their people, after all.
His eyes went to Matthew, whose opinion was provided before Joseph could answer. Again, he popped a grape into his mouth. He listened, and he did agree with the assessment. The mere fact that the Sandoval family had come suggested they were here to make a statement, and he would not put his money on the bet that it was to bend the knee - not in truth, anyways.
Joseph then had asked her a question and nodded to her immediate response. Yes, the Sandovals had not been necessarily expected here given the reason for their congregation, and yet there they were - and they were not being hidden about it. "I don't expect those who attend the pledging to refuse. I would think those who do arrive will be clamouring to offer themselves up first, lest it be wondered whether they weren't truly dedicated. Those who do not show up, now I wonder what will be of them." He fully expected that his niece would show up, and did her part to pledge, no matter all the pretty words that might entail.
He sliced up more food.
"It is my interest to know how Lord Ibarra makes of the Sandoval presence." He added, not quite to himself, but it was also more as though an after thought. And then, an actual after thought. "Has Deina indicated she would be able to join us?"
