Julien Deveraux did not venture down this way very often. He was not a fighting man and had no real consideration for the glory of blood sport. To him, the thought of spilling blood was unclean and often unnecessary. It made his skin tingle with the feeling of dirt being set upon it, and frankly he disliked that feeling. No, Julien’s battles often came with his mind. Perhaps this was one reason the relationship Julien had been his father and older brother was strained. Yes, strained. That felt like a good word to describe it. Of course, since the passing of his mother things had been a little different and he viewed his father in a new manner also, but he would never be Pierre and simply speaking, Julien never wanted to be.
Still, his boots strode through the halls of the castle until he came upon the Marshal’s office. He did not have an appointment, but knew his brother and father would both be found here today. He nodded to the attendant, noting the surprise born on the man’s face and did not wait to be welcomed into the office.
His gloved hand went for the handle and Julien, despite a keen knowledge of manner and decorum, he let himself into the room. As he did so, he admitted something that Julien never hastened to admit – and the words felt heavy on his lips as he spoke them – ”I’m glad I’ve found you both together, like this, I need your help.” He supressed the shudder he felt, the annoyance with such a show of weakness but neither of the men before him were men who appreciated anything but bluntness when it came to the matter of words. And although he had opened the door and disturbed them, he still stood in the doorway, his hand on the handle, one foot in the room the other not- for he would not actually come in without invitation, he wasn't completely senseless.
