Telling Marie-Louise not to worry was like trying to tell the sun not to rise in the east, a complete waste of time but a worthy effort. She was always worrying about some-thing, that made her who she was. But Julien was right and it was the times of calm she ought to be most worried about, not the on-going whirl-wind that was their lives right now. Glad to hear that Nicolette was good and solid, she smiled back at him. As long as their cousin was stead-fast, she did not need to worry as much about Julien.
She nodded, knowing he was right. "It is coming and I know it. It's already started since cousin Mariette is being sent to the north to Vasile and has asked me to go with her. Father is going as well, you know." Marie-Louise was not really sure what good she could do but she would give her best effort to make the trip a success. "I know, and I'm grateful to know you are here if I need you. The same goes for you, you know." Her eyes looked up to his, sober and dark. "Even if you just need someone to listen, I am here for you too." It had always been so in their family, where Pierre and Anton had each other and she and Julien were close. It was a good way of things done.
The kiss to her head reassured her as she thought about it. "I hope so. I don't like to see her so unhappy, not when she is always so cheerful, but that is part of growing up, I guess you could say." Marie-Louise was not so sunny and happy as Mariette, but she did her best to cheer when she could. Her brother's suggestion made her blush, knowing he was urging her not to be so shy. "I... I try. I made a new friend at cousin Antoinette's croquet game, she's a lovely young lady. Have you ever met Lady Isobel Cameron?" She looked up at her brother, curious to know.
