She nodded, taking note of his views on knives, her own cup travelling to her lips and a little more than a sip disappeared down her throat. "My father all but insisted." Her father had been happy to know his daughters were safe and, thanks to her family's disinterest in social climbing, had allowed her to progress further than the knives she carried on her person.
"I agree, knives are also not the most effective weapon available but they suffice when protecting one's self and, forgive my blunt tongue but, I can scarcely conceal a sword in these garments." Swords were easier, especially on horseback as the speed made up for the lack of strength Peyton knew she had in comparison to her male counterparts. However, with knives, a sharp jab at close range, a swift twist of the handle, under the rib cage, would help to disable an assailant.
She felt her hackles rising, could hear her voice becoming more pointed, as she tended to do when defending herself against the males who would question her lifestyle choice, mock her understanding of the duties, "My own preference falls to archery, which I believe my father prefers as it doesn't need to be in such close proximity to your opponent, I am becoming quite adept at mounted archery too, as well as mounted swordsmanship. Of course... the lance has its challenges." Her fiesty facade faltered as she frowned again, her eyes losing focus. She doubted she would ever master the lance due to its size and weight.
