Her brows rose in feigned astonishment. "With so many others on whom to hone and use it? Perish the thought, my sister. I would not presume to wield it on you in some minute effort to keep you humble." Her eyes, the same hue as her sister's, sparkled with the teasing, brightening all the more at Catalina's smirk. They had always teased each other; Catalina was the pretty sister, Elena the smart sister, after all. No amount of distance would change that, though Elena too felt the hole left in her heart from the time of Catalina's marriage. Fortunately, both sisters worked to fill the gap through newsy, frequent letters winging between Nacimiento and Catanara. Merely being in her sister's presence again was a blessing beyond words for Elena, though she was occasionally surprised by her sister's earthy frankness. "You raise a fair point, and it is not as if these words are meant for men's ears."
Drawing her sister along to sit once more, Elena was glad to talk over her perceptions of Niccolo with Catalina, ever trusting her sister's judgment of people. Catalina had a distinct talent for weighing a person from observation and interaction, making her look forward to their meeting on the morrow if only to hear her sister's initial impression. The mention of the sisters, however, made her huff out a laugh. "In some regards, though I did decide that I will seek to make a fresh start with Lady Caterina. And if a marriage is in the offing between the houses, I believe she may be the first name I toss in as a possibility." Truth was, Elisabeta was likely a better choice, more prepared for such a match, and Joanna was too delicate and sensitive a girl. Allegra? Not even a consideration.
Turning her hand so that her fingers laced with Catalina's, the smile was genuine as she met her sister's eyes. "When it is important, I will move heaven and earth... and this is important."
