The first meeting between the members of House Deliambre and House Montefiore had concluded with no bloodshed and not too many trials of the temper. As far as Septimus was concerned, the day had been a success, though the next day promised to be equally full of tension as they sat down with the Sandovals to begin forging a lasting end to the ancient feud. Aware that Catalina needed to rest, and Luciana as well, he decided to collect the men of the family to seek out the taproom of their inn to share a much needed drink.
Calling for Cesare and Silvio to meet him down there when they were ready, Septimus went down to select a comfortable table at a discreet distance from the bar. Though he did not intend to discuss anything of a sensitive nature, he was too much a creature of habit not to ensure a modicum of privacy. Settling down, he caught one of the passing barmaid's attention, requesting a pair of bottles - one of wine, one of brandy - and a trio of glasses. As the girl headed off with a flick of her skirts, he leaned back in the chair to contemplate the day and begin planning his strategy for the next day.
No doubt both men would ridicule him for near-obsessing on the matter, yet he was a man of deeply ingrained habits, preferring to leave little enough to chance. The Montefiores were unpredictable by their very natures; Septimus wasn't so fond of surprises that he wanted to be caught off-guard easily or often. And until the gentlemen joined him, the thoughts kept his mind occupied and the wine in the bottle.
Now where were they? It was time to relieve a little pressure.
