Sophie did not want to delay their intended departure for Shelbourne, knowing that the longer they tarried, the greater the chance that Benedicto or one of the Sinclairs would discover them and seek to prevent the journey. Obtaining her cousin Romeo's agreement to join them, the trio worked discreetly to prepare for the trek to the region due north, securing warm blankets, appropriate traveler's garb with sturdy cloaks and boots, and the necessary items to such travel.
As per agreement, they rose before dawn, saddling horses before leading them out and into the street to avoid rousing the slumbering members of their family. Entirely possible that someone would awaken, but if so, that was merest chance, or so Sophie told herself. Once free of the courtyard, Romeo helped Sophie to mount, offering similar assistance to Giulia if she desired it, then all but leapt into his saddle before the three Tesoros set off to meet Gideon.
Sophie was quietly optimistic about the journey and the outcome they sought. Finally, finally, the knight-man could find the peace he so richly deserved if they located the church and the girl's name, then worked to convince her spirit to seek its rest. She didn't delude herself that any aspect of the task that lay before them would be easy; if it was easy, surely Gideon himself would likely have tried it by now, but she felt it was his best hope for resolution.
The sun was not yet up as they waited, breaths steaming in the chill morning air, watching and waiting for the knight-man to join them.
