They had plenty of time to sit and discuss the philosophy of time once this matter was successfully concluded and the agreements were put onto parchment, signed and sealed for the good of all. Elena welcomed the chance for that discussion, if only for knowing that the pressures and strains of negotiating with a long-standing enemy would be off Niccolo's shoulders; the regular burdens, such as they were, would be 'all' he needed to carry for a time. She would be there to help carry them, of course, that went without saying, but the prospect of a pleasant evening spent by the fire sharing a drink and conversation was entirely too enticing. Soon, she promised them both silently, soon they would have that.
Bringing her attention back to the present, Elena eased back slightly to gaze up at her betrothed. A nod concurred with his assessment that the girl needed to make the venture to Bordelaix with them for her own good; the likelihood that she would continue to mature and perhaps find a suitable husband there was greater than her insistence on remaining in Duefuemi. Much as Elena sympathized with Joanna's wishes, reality dictated otherwise. "Do you intend all of your sisters to join us? It might do Elisa some good, though I have my reservations as to whether Allegra can handle it." Her opinion of the youngest was not the most forgiving, thanks to a rocky start that had not yet been resolved.
She sighed, knowing he spoke truth on Demetrio, but more, she wondered what other secrets the Duke's personal guard harbored. Reading Dem was like trying to read a thick stone wall, and about as easy. "Perhaps, but you cannot fault that his intentions are in keeping with his duties. Better to have him preach excessive caution rather than a recklessness, I feel." She saw no reason to remove her arms from his waist, her face softening into a quiet smile.
