Unlike what occurred across the way, the attack on the Deliambres was concluded almost as swiftly as it commenced. Of the ten men sent to bring the Calandrians low, five were dead or disabled, the others facing members of the Ducal Guard led by the ferocious Captain of the Guard and varied members of the family. Some of whom had, no doubt thanks to their Gods, gotten extremely lucky in their blows. Another man had been rendered unconscious by Lady Luciana, the eighth man was being secured by the Duchess while the remaining two men weighted their options.
They would be killed either way, of that the men were certain, but they could go down fighting or face execution after a period of likely torture in the Duke's pursuit of answers as to the who and the why behind the attacks. The man who was still alive faced the wicked grin of the Ducal Captain and chose to end his life in fighting, launching a fresh attack against Rodgin. He kept his head, his blade held professionally low as he waited in a defensive posture, his free hand indicating a 'come hither' gesture. This was going to be an ugly fight, the man knew, but he was loyal to his cause and would die for it.
The last man in the hall had no time to render a decision as Rizio's axe whistled through the air to land solidly in his chest before he could attack the women who darted into the hall or the Duke who charged out of his own room. His body jerked before he crumpled to the floor at Callista's feet with a gurgle, a rush of bright blood spilling from his mouth. The attack was over with a minimum of casualties to the Deliambres.... physically.
The damage had been wrought on a number of other levels, however.
