On the grounds of the Chateau was an open gazebo, painted white and surrounded by boxwood hedges. Ringed with comfortable, cushioned benches, the airy structure was a favorite place for Mariette to retreat in order to clear her mind and render decisions. In the wake of the coronation and feast, the fealty ceremony et al, the third Deveraux daughter needed a little time to herself to think with no pressure from sisters or cousins. She needed to forge a new path for herself, one that would lead her out of the shadows in which she'd been lurking lately.
Curled on one of the benches with her back tucked into the corner, the normally sunny princess had her legs stretched out before her with her ankles crossed and her skirts modestly arranged over them. One elbow leaned on the rail to prop her chin in her hand, her blue eyes gone cloudy with the lapse into thought. Now that the decision had been made to pry herself out of her fugue, Mariette was admittedly at something of a loss for how to go about it, and what to do in order to ensure she did not backslide.
The air held a promise that the fall coolness was on its way; a glance to the western horizon suggested that by evening, a storm would be upon them. Part of her relished the notion of a fierce storm of rain, wind and lightning, though her pets did not enjoy the tempests in the slightest. She would have to be sure Ivo and Noir were safely in her rooms when the storm began; they felt safe in their respective beds, far from the windows. A soft smile curved her lips, thinking of her dog and cat. They were hardly the best of friends... until a storm came, then a detente was issued.
The thought of a cease-fire reminded her that she needed to find a means of mending the breach with her sister Antoinette somehow as well. Letting out a gusty sigh, Mariette looked towards the sky and hoped for some wisdom to arrive...
