Three weeks of being officially a Princess of Archades was starting to wear Juliette down more then a little. If she didn't find a way to escape the formality and the pressures even for an afternoon, she was probably going to go absolutely insane. Hoping that her cousin Martine felt the same way, the youngest of the Deveraux royal princesses invited her to go out to the lake-side for a few hours on a picnic and maybe a swim. They would take guards, of course, but not Pierre or Sir Tory. No, Juliette did not want those two sticks in the mud along when they were blowing off a little steam. Choosing two knights who were a lot more sympathetic, she went down to the kitchens to beg a packed lunch for four.
A large basket was handed over, making Juliette grin and salute the cook's shiny cheek with a noisy kiss. The man blushed like a girl and shooed her away with a scold to be about her way and leave his kitchens alone. Laughing, she wiggled her fingers by way of fare-well, going to find Argent saddled and waiting for her in the courtyard. Giving over the basket to the knights as they called for their horses, she spent a few minutes with her beloved horse, giving him scratches and pets. Murmuring to him, she laughed when he whuffled her and nudged her with his nose.
When Martine arrived, she would find Juliette in communion with her horse while the knights looked on indulgently, waiting for the fourth member of their party to arrive. All was in readiness, including Martine's horse, for them to spend the day away from the palace and from all that went into being princesses.
