Clara Delamara was not ashamed to admit that she'd come to Bordelaix in search of an exit from the doldrums of life in Lavigne. The seaside city was charming enough, if one preferred provincial living and fish, but she wanted more and saw this as her opportunity to obtain it. With that in mind, she spent little enough time in the company of her family or in the family's home situated in the Lavender Quarter. She could not see or be seen there, nor could she begin to accrue the influential friends and contacts that would make a life in Bordelaix possible.
Despite Rik's declaration that the family would likely return home after the tourney, Clara had no intentions whatsoever of complying. Let the others retreat back home to lick their wounds if they pleased, but there was far too much at stake in the months to come for the family to maintain no presence in Bordelaix. To that end, she intended to appeal to her cousin Ra for his blessing to remain - she could be useful to him in his endeavors, especially if she gained a foothold in the court itself. He needed to keep his relatively invisible state; she loved being the center of attention. It was a symbiotic relationship in the best of terms.
With that in mind, she'd taken to spending considerable time in the chateau, attending the courts and getting to know the courtiers. Admittedly, Clara had not yet been able to strike up an acquaintance with one of the Royal Princesses, whom she saw as her best means of remaining, but there were plenty of Countesses and perhaps a Duchess or two who might prove useful. And then there were always Princes with whom to flirt and prime for information. Tonight, she noticed that Prince Emile was present, setting her sights on him for a little flirtation and perhaps to angle an introduction to Princess Antoinette or Princess Nicolette.
Now if she could just gain his attention...
