Character Name: Gideon Sinclair
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Birthdate: December 9th, 1399
City / Region: Ashworth, Shelbourne
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Sinclair
Played by: Aaron Eckhart
Appearance:
Gideon is a man of stolid constitution. Indeed, many could describe him as ruggedly handsome given his defined jaw, strong features, height and solid build. Even with his blond hair, green eyes and handsome looks, he looks every inch the knight and warrior that he had trained to be. Yet, where people hope for him to be the charming and perfect knight, they see only cold determination in his eyes. Indeed, one might ever see a smile crack upon his nigh statuesque visage. It makes people feel both safe and a bit scared to be in his presence.
Personality:
Gideon Sinclair is the exemplar of a sentinel: stolid, determined, and loyal. Though, he tends to take those qualities to the extreme. So much so that some could describe him as cold, aloof and occasionally ruthless, in a manner of speaking. Those that are close to him do not see the ruthless aspect of him, especially since it is withheld. However, those that would dare do harm upon his family or the meek of the realm will see him enact justice with a cold fury that few had ever seen or heard of. Indeed, Gideon views these qualities as a necessity not just for the protection of those he favors, but for his own personal survival.
Gideon had not always been thus. During his formative years, the knight was charismatic, warm and affable. Everyone in the family enjoyed getting on with him and he was frequently on center stage during family gatherings. The man had managed to win over the love not just his family, but the other minor nobles and commoners that lived within the county of Ashworth, if not the Duchy as a whole. Everyone remembers this Gideon very fondly, especially since this Gideon no longer existed.
Shortly after becoming a knight and a member of the Verdant Shield, Gideon changed. Indeed, his character soon became a full reversal. Warm went to cold, charismatic went to taciturn and affable went to aloof. No one in the family, save for the former Lord Commander of the Order knows what happened to him and he refuses to talk about it. Fortunately, the man had not become so cold as to neglect his family or fail to protect them.
Indeed, it is only the interactions with his sisters and certain cousins that brings out some sort of warmth. Gideon, to this day, still gives his sister rides upon his back. He continues to help others in his family as he can, but more often than not, he goes out on patrol and continues to work to protect the realm.
This change in him had not altered his skill set, either. Gideon is a highly observant man and is quite capable of conducting his own investigation on criminal matters. The man follows a code of justice that some might say is devoid of mercy, preferring to follow the letter of the law rather than adhere to its spirit. One, however, can never say that he is cruel or harsh in his dispense of justice, however. The innocent are treated civilly and the guilty are punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Thus is why Gideon is frequently described as a sentinel, being akin to the statues of warriors that many see guarding castles and homes. Yet, perhaps there is some hope of warmth beneath his stony surface...
Specific Skills or Abilities:

Character History:
That Gideon was the second born son of August and Hyacinth hardly came as a surprise. The Sinclairs had been famous for producing many children for generations upon generations. Indeed, they had frequently been equated to rabbits. This has never truly been a bad thing for the family, given its rousing success in the cattle and horse trades. Nonetheless, Gideon’s birth was joyfully received by their parents, especially after the lengthy and difficult birth; he was a rather large baby.
That size continued to bless (or plague) him throughout childhood, quickly sprouting up to an impressive height, though hardly the tallest of his family. There was no doubt the solid frame of his person, however. Indeed, Adam had frequently joked that Gideon robbed all the mass from his mother for himself, noting the comparatively smaller nature of his siblings. Fortunately, the size came to Gideon’s advantage; while Adam was off learning lessons an heir should, Gideon declared himself the guardian of their younger siblings.
Indeed, this natural protective tendency led to his exploration of becoming a knight. The Order of the Verdant Shield fascinated him and their heroic tales even more. The idea of protecting the realm at large from villains and ne’er-do-wells was greatly appealing and he started his training for knighthood in earnest. His father managed to get him assigned to Sir Bertrand of the Verdant Shield as a page, who would prove to be Gideon’s knight for the rest of his training.
Though he took his training seriously, Gideon was never one to neglect his family and made certain that he was the protective big brother to all of them, especially little Elizabeth. The memories of his childhood, though busy with lessons and training, are good ones.
Gideon continued to grow, taking to his training with great aplomb and rose to the rank of squire and apprentice knight with apparent ease. Though he was a gentle, affable and fun-loving man, he took his duties very seriously. Indeed, there was no doubt in anyone’s mind that he would be the next Lord Commander of the Verdant Shield and not just because he so happened to be the son of the Count.
When he reached the age of 20, he was granted his spurs and inducted formally into the Order of the Verdant Shield much to the pride of his family. The patrols of Shelbourne began shortly after, causing him to be away from home for weeks at a time, much the disappointment of his sisters, especially Elizabeth. Then, one day, he came home a changed man. The once warm and affectionate knight became distant and cold. Rumors ran rife. Something horrible had happened on his patrol, but he would speak only to the Lord Commander about such matters. Even until his retirement, the Lord Commander never uttered a word about it.
Elizabeth’s tragic accident did not help matters several years later, or at least, that is how it seemed on the service. The now recalcitrant knight was the saving grace of his young sister, encouraging her to live her life to the fullest… and not become a shell of a person like he was now. Despite that shell, however, he still very much loved his family and vowed to keep them safe.
The years have gone on since and Gideon still attends to his duty. Though he was offered the position of Lord Commander of the Verdant Shield, he declined. The honor passed on to his cousin, Logan Sinclair. Gideon did not feel he could handle the pressures of leadership, instead preferring to be responsible to the defense of his family and doing what he can to protect the realm.
Gideon has since refused take on pages or squires. Indeed, whenever he goes on patrol, he firmly prefers to go on his own. This has been his modus operandi for the past several years, and he seems himself protecting the realm until the day he does. Anything more, he holds no hope for.
Writing Sample:
Niccolo considered the man’s answer, finding it interesting, telling and actually rather amusing. Indeed, a smile did briefly spread across his features, and his eyes then narrowed in thought. Surely, this was all common knowledge and could be easily pulled from a dusty book in the palace library. Or one simply had to ask the various merchants exactly what Seravino contributed to the kingdom. Yet, Niccolo supposed this man would appreciate an updated account of his duchies affairs. But it also made him just how much this Lord Julien actually knew what was going on?
“Oh, by all means,” he gave a gesture toward him to indicate that he was more than ready. “Where would you like to begin?” The smile on his face was easy and playful, very curious as to just how this entire process was going to occur. Julien was clearly willing to play the part of the rapt audience in the face of Niccolo’s grand pronouncements of Seravino.
