Observing the younger man, Antonin saw the earnestly listening expression that Rik wore, that he looked to heed the suggestion of approaching the sister of the pair rather than the brother. Though he had yet to personally encounter Nicholas Remington, word had a way of getting around and the Duke did not necessarily like what he heard. He was likely to warn his sisters to be on their guard if they encountered the man.
He nodded, listening in turn to the mention of Rik's seafaring uncle, though he was a little surprised that more Delamaras did not seek to make names for themselves in sailing. The opportunities to the west of Archades had potential, but perhaps their ships were not equal to the deeper seas. Antonin had no way of knowing for certain. "That is good, though. You are making connections with the other nobles and establishing your name. Over time, that will help when you seek more business out. Right now, many do not know you so they are reluctant to treat with you. This will change, albeit with considerable effort." The Duke was not one to soft-pedal the truth; Rik needed to know what he was getting into.
Antonin wisely did not speak further on the matter of Montefiore; the dragon's ire would subside with time and then perhaps he could aid the Count somewhat in engaging in business. For now, he merely nodded, then smiled faintly. "I understand that. Some say I have no heart, though that is not true. I did not marry for love, I acknowledge that, yet I have been fortunate to find myself blessed in terms of bride. It is a difficult thing, doing what is right and best versus what is wanted."
