Zorion paused a moment and considered his words. “I do not mean to say that you should remove yourself from the shipbuilding business, my lord. I was counseling to lower your expectations of how far you expect your ships to travel in the immediate future. Our ships, as lovely as they are, cannot possibly sail on the ocean. However, we can continue constructing our fast shore ships for the very purpose for which they are intended. The coast of Archades is quite vast and I don’t see why we can’t take advantage of it.”
The man wanted to smile at Daario, but he refrained. Zorion didn’t want to give the Count the impression that he was mocking him. The Saavedra blood was burning hot and it had been a good while since he had been exposed to such passion. It was good for him, he supposed. Indeed, Zorion often wondered if he had forgotten what passion actually felt like.
“Then it seems we need to send out more eyes into the desert to find out what he can,” he pondered for a moment. “I have been slowly building relations with the al-Khalid family. My initial meeting with the Caliph was not as productive as I had hope, but I can tell he has no desire to get into a war with us, either. Let me see what I can learn and I will get back to you on this.”
That was something Zorion had not really considered. By opening relations with Desmira, the Rohari would feel pressed on more borders than one. It would be a good way to contain them, but Zorion also worried about backing them into a corner. Desperate men could be rather unpredictable and dangerous. “Very well,” he finally stated with a nod. “Perhaps we should invite them here or to Cervo to properly greet them.”
