She got through the Tournament somehow, collecting herself and maintaining the façade of composure until the final round when she could safely vent her anger at the Prince's deception out of sight and earshot of those attending the Tourney. Once that was done, Mariette opted to send an 'invitation' to the Prince to join her in the palace for a drink and a little... chat. She sent a member of the Clavigers to deliver her invitation, the better to ensure that her hospitality was not declined. Some answers were decidedly in order in the third Deveraux daughter's mind.
Setting the tone as unmistakably formal, Mariette waited in one of the more ornate parlors. She remained attired in the gown she wore to Court dinner, a delicate tiara resting on her golden head as she waited for the Prince's arrival. The knight was under strict orders to escort Prince Severin into her presence and then to remain. Gabrielle was also present, standing silently to one side of Mariette's chair to serve as a chaperone. There would be no question of propriety, no salacious gossip to come out of this meeting despite its relatively private nature.
She was silent as she waited, her face a cool mask that seemed unlike the normally sunny little Princess. Those who knew her would be surprised to know the extent of her concealed emotions on this point, but Mariette did not care to be someone's beard, especially a foreign royal who arrived both unexpected and uninvited. To her credit, she intended to hear what Severin had to say before reporting to Nicolette.
How the Prince answered would make all the difference in what she revealed to the Crown Princess.
