A faint, wry smile tugged at the corners of her mouth with Niccolo's mention of her cousin, aware that Dante was not only establishing himself as a man of growing influence but support. If he continued at the present rate, Elena had no doubt he would present a genuine threat to the Deverauxs' shaky hold on the throne, if he simply did not reach out and seize it. "Indeed, though I would be ready for nearly anything in the days to come, my lord. I am not privy to my cousins' plans, or the details of them, yet I feel safe in saying that there is definitely something in the air that suggests action is coming and soon." She only hoped it went as it was supposed to, willing to admit only to herself that there was a kernel of fear lodged in her stomach. Ambition, especially on a royal scale, could be deadly.
The talk of his sisters was both amusing and mildly annoying in light of the games Elena felt both Elisabeta and Caterina were playing with their brother. Refraining from commenting on them - they were Niccolo's problem to deal with, rather than her own - she listened as he spoke, a faint smile reflecting his somewhat bitter mirth. "She is a Montefiore, and with the notable exceptions of Piero and Joanna, I've found that this tendency towards excess emotion is a rather common trait in the family. Still..."
She thought for a moment, then inquired quietly, "What if we hosted a party or a ball, a sort of... introduction of Caterina to the cream of the noble families? It might help to soothe her anger if the focus is on honoring her finer qualities, which I know she possesses."
