Finding someone who did not want to be found was not the easiest task Sophie had ever undertaken, but she had an abundance of tenacity and a drive to succeed. A woman with a mission, so to speak, determined to help the knight-man after their encounter during the Tournament. Giulia had experienced it as well and understood now why Sophie was so drawn to the Sinclair knight, though she was gravely concerned for the depth to which Sophie was involved. Thankfully, her twin did not stop Sophie from her nightly forays to seek and find the knight-man. Giulia urged considerable caution and discretion, of course, wisdom that Sophie opted to heed.
After the better part of a week, she'd finally managed to gain some ground in her search for the elusive knight. He did not train with the other knights in the city, nor did he seek them out, making it incredibly challenging for Sophie. She couldn't just go up to anyone and ask about him, despite knowing the knight's name. The chances that Gideon would learn of her efforts to find him were excellent, which meant he would likely go to ground and render himself impossible to find. Thus, she had to be sly and cunning, taking some risks that bordered on foolhardy yet paid off.
Now that she'd found him, it was time to pay the knight-man a little visit and remind him that they were bound. She would help him find a way past the pain and guilt, a burden that he carried needlessly, and then find the peace he so richly deserved. Convincing him was the next step, Sophie knew.
Entering his home was surprisingly easy considering the hour. She had on a plain, dark dress already, her hair pinned in a neat bun at her nape. Adding an apron made her look like one of the servants, all but invisible in their ways. Making her way up the stairs, Sophie's soft-soled shoes made little noise as she continued down the hall, listening at each for any sound or indication as to which door belonged to her knight-man. Perhaps it was luck, or simply intuition, but she paused at the last door on the right hand side of the corridor, feeling a strange compulsion to enter.
Sophie glanced warily over her shoulder, ensuring that no other servant or family member was in the corridor before she lifted the latch slowly and eased the door open wide enough that she could slip inside. Once in, she gently closed the door and replaced the latch, then turned to survey the room. A thin ray of moonlight penetrated the curtains, providing sufficient illumination to let her move about the room.
She crept closer to the bed, unquestionably the most prominent piece of furniture in the room with its substantial size, thick posters and bedcurtains. They were tied back, allowing her to see a head crowned with dark blond hair resting on snowy linen. Sophie was fairly confident as to the sleeper's identity, but eased closer to verify; it would be extremely bad if the person woke and it was not her knight-man. The explanations would land her in very hot water indeed. Holding her breath, careful not to jar the bed or the sleeping form, she leaned over, then sagged in relief. Gideon was indeed the man asleep in the bed.
Moving back, she saw the large, comfortable chair to one side. Deeming it perfect, Sophie went to curl up in it and wait, knowing that the feel of her presence would wake him shortly. In the meantime, she heard the whispers of the others and smiled, listening to their words. They had so much to tell her...
