"Maybe some other time, if I can recall one aligned with appropriateness." He said giving the subject a glint of hope in the future rather than killing it dead on the vine. Rowan pursed his lips at her words, "Most treat them horribly ... imagine not having hands but your back and head itch, you're hungry but you're only fed and watered once a day. You're tired by you have to carry a man on your back from city to city with little to no sleep or rest. Don't get me wrong they are horses you just find them more agreeable when they are treated with more care then say with cattle. As for hard work one doesn't live in Shelborne without being familiar with hard work."
But when he lessened her concern for being drunk Rowan replied quickly. "Don't worry Susanna you're in good hands, I wouldn't take advantage of a lady in such a way nor put her reputation at risk, it would be considered unbecoming." Picking the location to sit, and pulling her chair out for her he then moved to sit in his own seat and speak of family, "My condolences Susanna, my family is a large one I'm close with certain cousins as for having a sister it's actually strange. I was tutored until I was eight then sent to a knight as a page, then became a squire I didn't meet my sisters until I was fifteen and that was only for a few months and not again until I could rightfully call my self a man."
Rowan sighed, he didn't wholly regret not meeting them sooner he loved life as a knight and the experiences he gained. "But I suppose it is like having a more delicate brother, only you're far more protective of them funny enough I'd not let my sister go into a tavern with a man for cider without an escort." The very circumstances they were in now made it a bit funny as a chuckle erupted from Rowan's lips and he rubbed his mouth as if to part from such comedy.
"Sorry.. I was reminded of when I returned and met my sister for the first time in a while... my little brother Mace ... Sir Mace didn't see my face... thought I was a knight having flirtations with his sister in the Castle. Turned me around so hard I thought the Gods themselves attempted to call me to attention. When I left he was a pup of a boy, fives years old a tony thing but I returned he's larger than me so imagine both of our surprise meeting like that." Rowan smiled and chuckled again as the barmaid brought the cider in large drinking horn tankards.
The golden frothy concoctions inside the tankards, instantly one could smell the sweetness, the pepper and mulling spices within and slow drifts of steam rising from the tops. Between them was set down a pewter plate with brown unleavened bread in the center. Rowan gestured to the tankard in front of her and smiled, "Try it, it's more sweet than spiced."
