May you live in interesting times...
Daniela was not at all certain who dared levy such a curse against her house, but if she ever found that person, she intended to make them pay for it. In the span of two months, she'd come to Bordelaix, met the usurped crown prince, become an orphan, met up with the man who'd been the first to touch her heart as a young girl, helped a beloved cousin to realize her dream, learned of a long-standing vendetta spanning generations and an ocean, and nearly lost another cousin to the end of that feud. Was it any wonder she felt exhausted?
Fortunately, the Festival was nearly over and that granted the city a brief reprieve before the whirlwind of the winter holidays began. Admittedly, she'd hoped to be able to return home before travel back to Terre Verde became treacherous, but it looked as if the Crown Princess - now the Regent - had no intention of allowing the court to depart any time soon. Thankfully, Corrado, Davide, and Gabriele volunteered to head home, oversee the last of the harvests and the musts for the season. She'd seen them off to the eastern shore that day, praying to the Triune that they'd make it safely.
Now, she lay in wait for Susanna, knowing her cousin tended to work long and late hours to keep up with the demands on her shop in the marketplace. Much was occurring, and Daniela wanted to be sure her cousin knew of what was going on. Sitting by the fire, a tray of tea and biscuits on the table, she waited for Susanna's return, hoping that they could talk before each went to her virtuous bed and enjoyed the sleep of the righteous.
