“This better be good, Wil.” Marcus said with good cheer as he walked with Wilhelm and some of his other family and councilmen down the stone walkways of Vanderhall. The place was buzzing with energy as it was the Congregation of Scholars; a time when inventors and creators of all assortments gathered to pitch new ideas and have the Duke decide whether the Vasile treasury would invest on the winning concept. It was an annual event along with the musings and presentations of new scientific discoveries from the philosophers and scholars.
For years Marcus would roll his eyes at Viktor, Lucien, and Sebastien’s previous selections. Most of them were childish things that rarely allowed any significant advancements of Vasile as a whole. But now the tables had turned and for the first time the fate of the region was in Marcus’ hands. He had spent all day being tugged this way and that by his various family members as they showed off what they thought would be the winning concept. Already Claudia had shown him some kind of invention that helped dry meats more effectively for winter storage. It was a heavy contender so far, and there was a confident skip in her step astride her siblings as they awaited for Wilhelm to lead them all to the idea that he believed would win the annual challenge.
With a smug smirk on his face he glanced to his youngest sister, Elsa, who seemed a bit removed from the group despite her walking along side of them. “What about you, little sis? Any idea of what you’re going to present to me? Or are you not interested in the challenge?”
Marcus upped the ante this year in the fact that not only would the winning creator obtain a sizable investment for implementation, but the family member who found the winning idea would also partake in a bit of gold and honor from the treasury. That managed to get many of the Romanovs jumping into the game.
Looking over to his older cousin, Alexander, he asked, “What about you, Alex? Have you found The One yet?”
But he wasn’t talking about ideas so much as he flitted his gaze towards the lovely protégé that seemed to follow Alexander’s every footstep. With a soft tap to his brother’s shoulder, Marcus gestured to an older man and asked Wilhelm, “Is that the man you speak of?”
