Character Name: Nicholas Remington
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Birthdate: September 29th, 1403
City / Region: Montenoire
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]: Montenoire
Played by: Colin O'Donaghue
Appearance:
Nicholas prefers to play the part of the charming rogue. Certainly, he is styled as the heir to Montenoire, but that did not mean he needed to be confined by it. The man does have a fondness for finer clothes, but is generally loose about wearing them. The tunic would be open, a rapier may be dangling at his hip and his manner of movement would simply scream 'scoundrel.' The man would occasionally have some scruff on the cheek, thinking that it added to his masculine charm, along with the somewhat messy hair. Yet, when the man smiled, he lit up the room. Perhaps there was something to being a charming rogue, after all.
Personality:
Nicholas can be described as a blend of three famous legendary men: Prince Charming, St. George and Casanova. Determined to be everything that his father was not, Nicholas is the epitome of charm and bravery. However, too much of anything can be a bad thing. It is possible to be too charming and it is possible to be too brave. This is a quality that Nicholas, though now in his 20s, has yet to learn. Nicholas has no compunctions about tearing after a boar on his own, armed with nothing but a spear, if only to prove that he can do it. While that has earned Nicholas a great deal of respect, several in his entourage are concerned that his bravery is going to get him seriously harmed, or worse, killed.
Nicholas’s charm has worked in his favor. In general, the Lords of Montenoire like Nicholas as a man who is charismatic, but actually follows through with his word. Nicholas abhors merely speaking pretty words to make people capitulate. However, while he may be the makings of a great statesman, Nicholas does have his vices. One, fortunately or unfortunately depending on one’s viewpoint, is women. Nicholas has been known to go after a pretty lady once or thrice. Rumors of the man’s ability to keep a woman satisfied and enthralled run rife through the court, much to his family’s chagrin.
Indeed, the young man's antics have made certain members of court question whether or not Nicholas even wants to be the Grand Duke. However, Nicholas is perfectly capable of managing certain aspects of the island's business since he enjoys hosting events, talking with nobles and negotiating several lucrative trade deals. The thrill of figuring people out and getting what he wants is quite appealing to him.
The death of his mother and the withdrawal of his father from public life told Nicholas more than ever that he needed to be prepared to take over the house. Fortunately for all of them, he was quite adept at management of the court along with his sister and ensuring that the trade deals his family worked hard to obtain will hold true. However, Nicholas knew that the Remingtons could not simply stay on the island. There was an entire world out there, and it was time for them to make their mark.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Negotiation
Courtly manners
Swordplay
Horseriding
Singing
Background:
Born the second child to Arthur and Amina Remington, the island celebrated for a number of days after the wonderful event. The Grand Duke had an heir and the Remington line was secure. As expected, the heir was afforded every opportunity to grow and become the Grand Duke everyone wanted. What everyone wanted, however, was a matter of debate. Nicholas’s father pressed hard on his son’s lessons is jurisprudence, military and stewardship. Arthur believed in ruling with logic and a level mind, but it was quickly apparent to the Remington family that Nicholas did not possess such. Nicholas instead had an innate charm that his mother quickly spotted and fostered.
Throughout his childhood, Nicholas was capable of getting himself out of trouble and convincing others to follow through his plans. Unfortunately, this quality brought him at odds with his father more often than he would have liked. The relationship between Nicholas and his father sharply deteriorated. Nicholas, from then on, was determined not to be like his father in any way.
Fortunately, Nicholas took well to most of his lessons… save for arithmetic. The young man simply did not have a head for numbers. It was only through the help of his eldest sister, Kathryn, that was he able to have any luck with them. Even after their education had ended, however, Nicholas had every intention of letting others handle the matter of numbers. People were far more interesting to deal with, after all.
Nicholas’s appetite for adventure was only matched by his desire for women, particularly blondes. There was no telling how many women Nicholas had bedded by the time he had entered his 20s, but most do not dare to speculate. Nicholas was also known for tearing off on a variety of escapades and it has been touted as a miracle that he has not been harmed, yet.
It was the death of his mother that finally made him calm some. Nicholas had been close to his mother, a woman he greatly respected and cherished. Fortunately for him, the young man has managed to keep a strong relationship with his siblings and a working relationship with his father. Indeed, this relationship was so strong that all suitors seeking his sisters’ hands were rejected, which no doubt frustrated them.
Yet, Nicholas knew this could not be maintained forever. At his father’s insistence, Kathryn and Nicholas were to travel to Archades and open relations with them. Nicholas looked forward to this opportunity with open eyes; after all, who knew what bevy of lovely ladies waited for him?

Kattalin's hard work was surely to pay off. From what he could tell, the attendees and general populace seemed to be pleased with all of the arrangements. Granted, the festival had a tendency to lend itself to revelry. Zorion didn't join such things, but he'd not deny the pleasure to his people. In light of the darker times the family had been facing, something brighter in spirit would do all of them a world of good. A happy populace was one that was easier to govern, after all. No doubt Kattalin would gently chide him for such pragmatic thinking in that regard.
As he made his way through the crowd, he felt confident and safe as he did so thanks to the bodyguard maintaining a close presence. While Zorion was pleased with Kattalin's work, it was no excuse to be lax with security. Crowds were the perfect cover for assaults and assassinations, after all. Perhaps that was a dark way of looking at the world, but it was one that had helped keep the Ibarra line alive.
He was due to open the festivities in several minutes, but he felt no particular rush. The people would start their celebrations when they felt the need to do so. The people of Gilboa seldom went out of hand with such things. Thus, Zorion kept his pace at a sedate stroll. The outfit of choice matched the house colors, moving away from his usual preference of black or other very dark colors. He was the Lord of House Ibarra and tradition dictated that he appeared as such. The value of tradition had been firmly ingrained in him since childhood. Most of it had stuck.
As he approached the metalworkers, he spotted a pair of familiar ladies. Kattalin was looking, as always, lovely in her gown. Therese looked every inch of her the knight that he expected her to be. "My ladies," he greeted just loud enough to be heard of the din of those gathered, "Good evening. Have you found anything to you liking?"
