Character Name: Rodgin Laguardio
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Birthdate: 09/26/1400
City / Region: Catanara / Calandria
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]: Laguardia
Played by: Charlie Cox
Appearance: Rodgin is a young face, tanned from plenty of time out in the elements, framed with black hair worn shoulder length and free. Standing just over six feet tall, with an average build, Rodgin is slow to smile, generally found with a stoic expression. He is well muscled and well proportioned, both in face and body, making an excellent impression for House Laguardio everywhere he goes.
Personality:
Serious: This is something of an understatement. Rodgin is known to rarely laugh or even smile, his duty always being at the forefront of his mind. He has been known to remain stone faced even when presented with a room of laughter and gaiety.
Stoic: Rodgin emphasizes this to the utmost, often not speaking unless it is required of him. He is the first to take over a watch during inclement weather, seemingly quick to put his body into testing and difficult situations and thriving in them by not moving.
Intelligent: Despite rumors to the opposite, and opinions fueled by his own actions, Rodgin is well schooled and well spoken. He understands the jokes and conversations about him, he just never feels the need to partake in them. Warfare is the only topic that truly interests him, but it is rare to be in a situation to discuss it as he has not the rank to partake in such meetings.
People Pleasing: While most would assume that Rodgin could care less what the world thinks of him, he is quick to try and please his betters. Anyone with the last name of Deliambre is high on this list, and Rodgin, if available, will be the first one there to defend them or their honor.
Specific Skills or Abilities: Rodgin is highly skilled with a sword and shield, and an above average horseman. He is able to take more pain then the average man as well. His education and diplomacy skills are severely lacking, but that is due to his intense stoicism.
Background: Rodgin Laguardio was born the third son of the brother of Count Laguardio. The middle son died that winter, making Rodgin the second son, and still entirely inconsequential. He was schooled with his cousins though, learning as much as the poorly paid tutor could manage to teach four boys. Rodgin's father was responsible to teach them all the sword, and while the youngest and smallest, Rodgin was quick to keep pace with his cousins. He took many a bruise and cut, but continued to hold his own.
His learning from the tutor quickly fell off though as Rodgin spent more and more of his time studying the arts of war. It took an inventive turn from his tutor to get him back on track, relating math, science, and even reading, back to swords and sword play. Rodgin quickly adapted them, throwing himself into any exercise he believed would better him in sword play.
He was seventeen when Rodgin realized that his immediate family truly owned nothing. They lived day to day by the grace of his Uncle, the Count, and even more so, by the grace of Duke Deliambre. He made it his goal to find a way to ensure the family continued to be in the Duke's good graces. When word of the Ducal guard reached him, Rodgin knew that was his way in.
It took another five years before he got his chance, doing his best to fit in as the perfect guard. While it chaffed his older brother, Rodgin easily got his Uncle's blessings when they were told to send a new guard. Now he takes his duties seriously, being everywhere he is needed, doing his best to put the Laguardio family in the best light.
Rodgin has had few dealings so far with those he is to defend, but he has seen enough to form his opinions. Duke Antonin is the epitome of what a lord should be, in Rodgin's opinion. While the other members of his family hold much of the same respect, Rodgin is often confused by their lack of military bearing. However, their honesty and sense of adventure has eclipsed any issues Rodgin may have with them for now.
Besides, what does nobility care of a guard?
Writing Sample: The rain started slowly, though Rodgin had seen it coming since he had started his shift as the door guard to the Ducal home in Catanara. It had slowly advanced, making a grey curtain that wound towards him across the countryside and then across the streets of town. Finally the large fat drops of rain started to pelt him across the face and shoulders. It was a steady summer rain, the kind that children would run around the streets to play in and not get cold. He would need to change uniforms after his shift, but Rodgin didn't move, merely blinking from time to time to remove the raindrops that hit his eyes.
The people in the streets scurried from overhang to doorway attempting to stay out of the falling water. A wry smile turned up the corner of Rodgin's march as he watched the commoners, scurrying about like rats to stay out of the water. He would have strode boldly down the street, but he was no commoner either. Not that it mattered. All that mattered now was to hold his post until he was given another job to please House Deliambre.
