Vasile’s induction into the whole of Arcades is a tumultuous one at best. The people of Vasile demanded complete freedom from all monarchies, but the Archades royal family of the time wanted claim of the lands. Many bloody battles were fought back and forth. Treaties were often crafted then broken. The Romanovs’ superior strategists and technology of the time allowed them to hold their lands for a while until the laws of nature took a mighty swing. When the Blood Plague struck the heart of Vasile, it would be the Duchy of Gardiner that inadvertently came to the rescue. When the sickness lifted, the Romanov family swore themselves to Archades, and found an interesting ally in the Duchy of Gardiner.
Romanovs have always been a forward-thinking lot who are keen of mind and sharp of skill in whatever endeavor they aim to master. Primarily, their intentions lie in the fields of academics and technology. Many of Archades’ greatest minds have come from Romanov stock, as well as some of history’s greatest downfalls as well. Not necessarily a political family, they were more interested in pursuing the accomplishments and influence that their advances and research provide; if anything, the Romanovs have proven themselves to be slightly aloof, inclined to study and observe before making a calculated move. Unfortunately, this has resulted in recent years in a kind of isolation for the northernmost family.
It is in their very nature to be pursuers of enlightenment in some form or fashion. They are inquisitive individuals who don’t see the world for what it is, but what it could be. To them, everything in life can be improved upon which is why they are known for being master engineers, architects, and metal workers. The art of creation and invention is where Vasile gains its strength of economy. Science, mathematics, and literature thrive in this region and are not exclusive to the Romanovs alone. However the Vanderhall capital boasts one of the biggest libraries in all of Archades, making the secluded city an oasis of knowledge to which scholars of every kind take some kind of pilgrimage to that glorious place of study.
However, the family has fallen on hard times. Numerous deaths under suspicious circumstances and civil unrest have resulted in a coup that has removed the Romanovs from the ducal seat and reduced to vassal house status. That does not mean they view themselves as less; if anything, they are resolved to reclaim what is theirs and regain the ducal seat.
Physically the Romanovs come in all shapes and sizes, but they are typically a hearty family with dark features. Brown hair and blue eyes are the dominant traits among the family lineage which typically supersede any fairer features by a foreign spouse.
