Character Name:
Sabriyah bint Qasim ibn Fahlad ibn Rashad al-Khalid
Age:
18
Gender:
Female
Birthdate:
December 1, 1409
City / Region:
Zahran, Rohari
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]:
al-Khalid
Played by:
Selma Ergeç
Appearance:
Unlike her father and many of her siblings, Sabriyah's complexion is not so dusky or sun-kissed but almost pale in comparison, whereas she possesses the raven black hair and equally dark eyes indicative of a native Rohari woman. She reflects her late mother's physique, not a tall woman but with the soft curves that indicate maturity. As the Caliph's eldest daughter, she dresses with the appropriate modesty expected of a Rohari woman, donning robe and veil when she emerges from the Den to enter the city. Her choices of colors are subdued, often dark or earthy, though her hair is often dressed with a jeweled piece to match her attire. Small feet are clad in soft-soled slippers, though there is the subtle sound of bells about her as she moves.
Personality:
Peaceable - As one caught between two dynamic forces, it often falls to Sabriyah as the eldest daughter and acting lady of the house to maintain some measure of peace within the family. Accordingly, she speaks softly but with impact as it is needed, her words often selected purposely to remind the family of the sanctity found within the walls of the Desert Fox's Den.
Strong-Willed - Though she is a woman of peace, Sabriyah is no meek or mild young woman. To face both her father and her elder brother is no easy task, nor is herding her younger siblings. Running a household of fiery-spirited Rohari tribesmen and woman requires a firm hand, one of iron swathed in the softest of Rohari silks.
Proud - Like all true-born Rohari, Sabriyah is intensely proud of her heritage, her bloodline and her family. Aware that the privilege she enjoys has been earned through blood and sweat, she is not arrogant, but remains aware that she is of the Khalid and carries herself accordingly.
Administrator - Sabriyah, until such time as either her father selects another bride, or Bashir takes a wife, manages and administrates the considerable holdings of their family, no easy task when considering the size of their household, goods, herds and trading. She was blessed with a considerable head for numbers and the ability to make swift, confident decisions for the profit and the good of her family.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Efficient Organizer/Multitasker
Skilled Dancer
Accountant
Trade Negotiation/Appraisal
Background:
The eldest daughter born to the Caliph of Rohari, Sabriyah was raised to know her place and her duty within the region and especially within her family from the day of her birth.
She was a typical female child, though intensely close to her mother, who managed the impressive al-Khalid holdings for her Caliph. Accordingly, Sabriyah's education in the duties of a daughter began at an early age, indoctrinated initially through simple observation until she was nearly four. Then, out of a desire for sanity, the little girl was given over to tutors for instructions in mathematics, accounting, reading, writing, sciences, economics and a plethora of subjects deemed necessary to properly administrate a household belonging to a Rohari emir or caliph. For the next ten years, while other brothers and sisters came along, Sabriyah divided her time between morning lessons, afternoons spent with her mother and the various staff that went into managing the great Caliph's estate, and then evenings spent with her family where she could revert to being a child for a little while.
All of that changed with her mother's untimely death. In what felt like the blink of an eye, Sabriyah went from being a child, forced into the role of a woman. As the eldest daughter, all of the responsibilities on the lady of the house fell onto her shoulders. She found herself struggling to manage the household, help raise the younger children, and more, as her elder brother's defiant attitude manifested in more frequent conflict with their father, as the family's peacemaker. For a time, life was difficult, challenging, even frightening for her. Sabriyah struggled with her new-found responsibilities coupled with her grief over her mother's death. However, she rose to the challenge, acquiring with maturity a serenity and a calm that she spreads over the Desert Fox's Den.
Now, Sabriyah is a strong and efficient young woman, one with a skill for administration and economics that has worked in concert with her father's politics and policies while managing to prevent a major schism between her father and her eldest brother. Thus far, she has her own private defiance in refusing to marry, reluctant to abandon either her father or brother to each other without a woman's intercession.
Writing Sample:
The summons delivered of the King sent the kingdom into various reactions that ran the gamut of extremes; some considered it an ill omen while others sought to view the journey into the King's court as an opportunity to accomplish good things for their respective regions. Persuading the nay-sayers of that perspective would prove to be challenging, to say the least, yet she was prepared to lend her voice in support to Merthen regardless of what his stance and decisions would be. A part of her wondered if he would request her presence alongside his in the journey.
The pale-haired Cadag lass answered her lord brother's request promptly, her respect for Merthen demanding no less. He indulged her in the matter of marriage after her betrothed died, though Eirian strove to earn her place within the household. Fortunately, Regan was as patient and understanding in that regard and her respect for her brother's wife ensured she made no effort to usurp Regan's place as Lady of the House or the prevailing lady of the family. Taking a moment to smooth her hair and ensure she looked appropriate just outside of the hall, she drew in a breath and moved to join her brother.
Reaching the chair that was normally hers to occupy, she glanced over to study her brother's features. Merthen appeared solemn, holding a parchment that looked to bear... the Royal Seal? Puzzled, Eirian wondered what the contents were but spoke quietly. "Merthen? What news?"
