"Dederik would possibly wish to know and understand the meaning behind the words that you believe would be severe enough for a lashing, Uncle. I never think him to be unjust or violent in such a way. I do believe if a crime against him is severe enough, he will seek out to fit the punishment to the crime, whether it be even severe enough for death...but I don't believe he will ever lash a man for his opinions or his words because I simply do not see that in him. A lashing would be too cruel for such a situation as I too would wonder about the words the person is speaking. To punish a man so harshly for speaking is to slightly take away their right to be human and I will never do that."
He then put his coffee aside and stood, shoulders square and back straight. "A hanging is cruel as well, I will give you that but a man must truly earn that hanging in order for it to happen. Although some men are unjustly hanged, it isn't up to me who is hanging from that rope and who is not. It is my job, however, to guarantee nobody in this family or working very closely with this family ever ends up with that rope around their neck. I am young and I understand that but your doubt is written all over you, showing from somewhere deep within. If I didn't believe I could do this job, I wouldn't even bother wasting my cousin's time but as it stands, I am very capable and willing to do this job. It is the younger generation that guides and molds this family into what it is and I am done having the doubt of others drench me just as the ocean drenches the ships on that harbor. I am a Delamara and I will not let anybody down, including myself, in taking care of the cargo business."
He then turned away from his uncle. "I appreciate your time...and I'm sorry to waste what I have of it but a ship is coming in and I must go. Rest easy, Uncle..."
