The manor that housed the Deschênes family was very quiet with so many gone north and east to the Gardiner lands. Daragh hadn't realized just how much light and life the twins, Eimilie, Cataleen and Breena brought into the place, and how much they contributed to the smooth running of the house until they were gone. Fortunately, the needs of those who were left behind were fairly simple, and his cousin Aelinor smoothly stepped in to keep them all in order. He was beyond grateful to her, knowing that he would be a complete disaster at trying to run the house the way Eimilie did.
The plans were laid and put into action to flush out the bandits that had decided to take up raiding in his woods and preying on his people. Daragh took their presence like a personal insult, leading the charge to eradicate them. Some of the bandits had been killed, unavoidable when they put up armed resistance but they'd also managed to capture the rest to bring to the bar of Justice. He had given them over to one of the royal magistrates to be tried, knowing that he could not be impartial, not when they'd tried to kill him and kidnap Gwynevere. His form of justice would have been severe.
As if that wasn't enough, the summons from the King arrived, bringing with it a new burden he hadn't expected. A hand raked through his hair, a reminder that he probably needed to get it cut, as he tossed it onto his already cluttered desk. Deciding that he wanted some advice, Daragh got up and went in search of his uncle Aydan. Both men had a dislike for court and all that went with it. Maybe if he could persuade Aydan to join him, the trek and the time spent there would be bearable.
Now, where would he find Aydan?
