Early (but not too early, of course), Elena secured one of the Montefiore guards to accompany her across the town to where her sister was residing. Despite Niccolo's reassurances that Catalina received no injury and the babe she carried came to no harm, she needed - nay, demanded - to see for herself. Catalina was her sister, an undeniable part of her heart and soul who was an intrinsic part of her life despite the imposed separation of distance and marriages. Aware that Niccolo was with Lord Deliambre on the matter of interrogating the lone surviving attacker, she made no effort to avoid taking an escort and a guard.
She owed that respect to Demetrio, especially considering the risks and the injuries the man had taken to prevent her abduction. As she was to be the Duchess, venturing out with an appropriate escort was only proper and right. It was time to remember her place and conduct herself appropriately. The Montefiores had enough to concern themselves with as it was; they did not need the additional burden of a rebellious, foolish woman.
Approaching the inn, Elena greeted the innkeeper on entry, inquiring politely as to the recovery from the damages inflicted on the building. Certain that the Deliambres would reimburse the man as necessary as the Montefiores would the inn in which they'd been accosted, she couldn't help but sigh. So much damage inflicted, yet she harbored a tiny kernel of hope that from the ashes of the destruction, new prosperity and opportunity might arise. Caterina would indeed face a challenge in Anzio, albeit one she felt the young woman would meet and conquer adroitly.
Satisfied that courtesy was observed, Elena requested to be conducted to the Duchess. Thanking the innkeeper as the man led the way upstairs and to the door that served as her sister's temporary home, she acknowledged the guards on duty, identifying herself as one went to inform Catalina that her sister was present, seeking her company. Would the Duchess admit her?
