The tension that filled the castle over the past few days had Annaliese concerned, sufficiently so to seek out her father and inquire if there was anything that could be done to relieve some of it. The distance between Collin and Freja was nothing terribly new, even though she failed to comprehend it. Their father had never been - in her recollection - anything but gentle, kind, and loving. Firm, of course. Occasionally stern, to be sure, but for a man forced to raise such a large brood alone, he'd done well and then some. She was terribly proud of him.
Hoping to soften him up a little, she waited an hour or two after dinner to carry a tray with a pitcher, two glasses and a plate full of freshly baked honey cakes to his study. Annaliese hadn't rehearsed any sort of speech or opening statement, but hoped to spend a few minutes with Collin and trust that the opportunity to pose her concern presented itself. Intermingled with her pride was a fair amount of worry for him; she felt she had a better perspective than most on her father, but did not deceive herself that she knew him best.
Balancing the tray with care, Annaliese knocked lightly to gain his permission to enter, smoothing her features into calm with a gentle smile. She wouldn't be able to hide her worry from him, she never could, but she didn't want to hit her father over the head right off the bat either. Hopefully, the tray in her hands would be the perfect temporary distraction for them both, allowing for a little pleasant conversation before turning to serious matters.
