He flattered her about her hair color, but it was a flattery that soothed Mariette's increasingly troubled heart. To be one more blonde in a bevy of blondes was a trifle frustrating, the better for knowing that cuteness was no competition for regal, elegant and beautiful. Regardless, they were not here and she was, thus she allowed herself to relax and enjoy the light banter. Harmless flirtation, really. "As it is to meet you, no matter what our connection might... or might not be." Mariette's smile was much more in keeping with her usual, sunny self now.
Glad that she'd asked a question to draw him into thought, she made no effort to hasten his reply. Instead, Mariette took advantage of the silence to openly peruse his features, attire and the way he sat on the fountain's marble lip. He wore clothing with a rather foreign flair about it, certainly nothing she'd encountered while traveling or prior to departing Bordelaix. Distracted back to his face when he spoke, she couldn't quite prevent the wry smile that twisted her lips. "Well said, my lord. I think we all have questions to which we'd rather not discover the answers, wouldn't you agree?"
The story spun out then, once more enveloping her in the scene he described artfully. Letting her eyes drift closed for a few minutes, Mariette listened, able to easily conceive an image in her mind to match. A soft smile curved her lips with the mention of the beauty whom the tower held. The tale had a familiarity to it, a sense of romance and adventure that surely every lady dreamed of. And hopefully, seeing that his listener was enthralled, he would not stop.
