Character Name:
Tamhas Cameron
Age:
26
Gender:
Male
Birthdate:
April 1st
City / Region:
Marlowe/ Shelbourne
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]:
Born - Cameron
Played by:
Gabriel Basso
Appearance:
Like his father, Tamhas is tall and broad shouldered. Standing at a dominating and well-defined 6’5; the shadow of this lad is intimidating. He looks like some sort of gladiator, with a firm and hard chest, large round shoulders and rippling, sharp muscles in his back and arms. He is typical of the clan, with auburn hair and freckles across his weathered skin.
Unlike his father, Tamhas keeps his hair well-kept. Not so short as the start of a curl or flick of a cowlick is completely avoidable, but short enough so that it doesn’t block his eyes and looks suitable. He very rarely has thick stubble on his chin and if there is a trace of hair there at all it is just simply a shadow. He tried growing a beard once, when he first turned eighteen, but after taking some severe flak from his sisters as to how soft and childish it looked he’s vowed to keep himself clean shaven just a few years longer- until he can have pride in out-growing his father’s beard.
Like his mother, Tamhas has chocolate coloured eyes that are deep and romantic like muddy pools. They are the sort of eyes that open the window to the soul, that open hearts and cast magic spells. His dark eyes give him something of a youthful and playful apparel and Tamhas communicates more with his eyes than he does with his hands; he is known to wink and roll them to show his pleasure and pains.
Unlike his mother, he rarely wears fine clothing, preferring leathers and furs to the courthouse silks and velvets. His has a favourite pair of gloves, which are tanned with the family insignia on it and are one of his prize possessions. More overly, he has no shame in going bare chested when the weather allows it and amongst the soft mass of chest hair are several scars and nicks from battles fought, lost and won.
Personality: A more in-depth look at what makes this character tick. Please include character ambitions, goals, virtues/flaws. Once you've finished this, we suggest that you reach out to players of your character's family members and have them read it, the better to help establish family relationships - this is especially important for characters who have siblings or parents in play!
Man of Duty
Tamhas is a man heavily burdened with duty. He is more than aware that he is his father’s heir and he takes that very seriously. Over the years he has grown into a respectable, thoughtful and balanced young man and under his father’s watchful eye is an able and capable heir. He carries himself with pride and courage, and knows that when the occasion arises he will be do his best to be a set of strong shoulders for his father and their clan’s burdens to rest upon. By no means is he the most intellectual of men, but he take his time to think through the words he speaks, to weight up the odds of the decisions he makes and to act with both decency and honour; believing that it is important for his clan members to trust him at his word and at his actions.
Man of Play
No one in the Cameron household takes themselves too seriously, particularly the men. Growing up as the oldest Tamhas set the bar for practical jokes and for festive celebrations. He grew up being adventurous and fun loving, looking for obscure and teasing ways to irritate his younger siblings in the harmless rivalry between them. But with this love of games and play, comes a softer side too. Tamhas enjoys flirtation and romance, he likes the idea of being charming and part of that comes out with ease when he has had a few drinks and is feeling most relaxed. Sometimes, in these moments of softness there is something of a shyness to him too.
Man of Practice
Tamhas is a practical man, he is not praised as a thinker but would much rather be hunting or working a field. He can work wonders with wood, from whittling to hacking down a large oak for the much needed festival bonfires. Tamhas is the sort of guy that does the things he says he will, even if he tries and fails many times before he fines his way to success. But that’s just the trick. He’s a trial and error sort of man, who can sometimes throw himself in at the deep-end and lose sight of the task at hand. Still, it shows how bold he is and perhaps how stubborn he can be too. Nothing has beaten him yet, to say the least.
Man of Defence
A family man, despite winding his siblings up and riling them no end, he would go to any length to protect them and to ensure- as best he could – their happiness. His loyalty to his family seems to know no bounds and therein lies this man’s biggest weakness. Like a bear, he is resilient and ferocious but can throw himself into blind rages in order to jump to the defence of those he loves. And boy does he know how to love, he loves solidly and fiercely and all-encompassing. But like any big, strong man, sometimes he doesn’t know the capabilities of his own strength.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Agriculturalist
For want of a better description he’s a capable farmer, blacksmith, shepherd and carpenter. This is something he was brought up doing and something he has a real love for. From riding down a boar with his father to sitting and creating with his youngest sister Kenna. He is good with his hands and his hands are good for the land. Tamhas has no objection at getting muddy, he has no objection to getting stuck in with the work of labouring and in fact, he very much enjoys it.
Warrior
Being built like a gladiator wasn’t just so he looked good, he knows how to use his muscles to fight. He is an excellent hand to hand fighter, both with and without a weapon and knows how to trust his body to weaken, disable and if needs be – destroy any foe. Most talented with a sword, like his father, he has a skill that has been handed down to him through his family linage and he hopes to one day pass forwards onto his sons. This ability to best his foes in combat comes from great balance and self-awareness that he also has when he’s riding a horse.
Survivalist
The long line of Cameron’s were men of the outdoors and Tamhas takes that to the next level. He is an avid hunter, and can follow game on the back of a horse or track it for days on foot. He knows how to build warrens and dens and also what he is likely to find down warrens and dens. As something of a ranger, it is possible that this boy missed his calling in the wilds. But perhaps the most impressive part of his survivalist arsenal is his understand of which parts of ‘the wild’ are good medicines and which parts of ‘the wild’ are excellent poisons. Poison, it’s uses and impacts on the body (both human and animal) are one of the darker fascinations Tamhas has.
Background:
Tamhas, first son of Niall Cameron and heir to the Clan of Cameron, was a born to be a bright and bouncy child. He was born in the early morning on the first of April, and with his welcome screams and cherry cheeks, he woke up the entire house hold. As his parents first offspring he was rejoiced and the apple of his father’s eye. Niall thoroughly enjoyed showing the baby off to anyone he met during his daily routine, though his grandfather often scored the most points for gushing patriarch. But more than his father and grandfather’s love Tamhas was born with the love of a proud household behind him. He was their future, after all.
But no ruler in their right minds put all their eggs into one basket and as Tamhas grew towards his second birthday his brother, Callum, was born. On that day, Kentigern Cameron presented him with a small wooden sword to play with. It acted to distract the boy from natural sibling jealousy that came at such a young age but it was also a real symbol of the bond between grandfather and grandson.
Still, Tamhas grew with his brother and quickly the two became inseparable. At a young age they did the things boys did, they fought and squabbled, they cuddled in sleep and rode on the back of their fathers hunting-dog’s, giggling and screaming and shrieking with the joy of being young. As a youngster in his morning years Tamhas only really had the attention for one sibling and while he enjoyed holding baby Isobel when she came along, or baby Adair on his arrival, he was turning into a little person and had no time for spit covered babies who did nothing but poop. His siblings held no interest in him until they could at least walk and talk.
When his grandfather died he was too young to really understand what was happening, but in the aftermath of the fact he still keeps the wooden sword he was given. It was the only one that his grandfather handmade and the only one passed on to his generation. So to Tamhas that wooden toy will always be the most special and one day he will pass it on to his own son.
He was almost eight when Kenna arrived and in those years had taken it as his chief responsibility to teach his siblings the art of fun. The children enjoyed playing tricks and running their family and the servants ragged. Often he would act as the distraction to allow Callum to sneak into the kitchen and steal sweet foods that they would all run into the stables and share. It was a happy life- and his lessons with Callum, about the running of their clans, seemed to be like games too.
But his teenage years struck and then the two older boys started to realise their differences. Callum wanted to be the heir of the clans and it caused some points of strife between the two lads. They became more jarred with each other and everything, from daily chores to lessons in ruling, had become a devilish competition. They were taught to spar together, where Tamhas had the natural ability and they were taught to play chess, where Callum always beat Tamhas.
The two boys even seemed to split their favourites amongst the family. Team Tamhas adopted Isobel, with her love of all things practical, into it while Team Callum became closer to Kenna and her love of mischief. Not that there was too much of a divide between them, which would be too much like serious work. No, the rivalry was mostly playful, was mostly harmless- they were just boys being boys. And of course, as Niall’s heir Tamhas really didn’t need to compete with his younger brothers did he? He and his father did things together that Callum had no love for, they hunted, they farmed, and they sat up until the early hours discussing the land – the soil and dirt of it rather than its weight in gold. Tamhas had a more earthy connection to his father that Callum would never achieve.
Tamhas grew and grew and as he became older became more of the bear that he is today; with thick strong shoulders and long thick legs, he is a warrior of a man. But he has a softness to his soul that can be viewed through his eyes. As he grew he became closer still to his father, and became more of a protector within the family.
No longer did he wield a wooden sword but on his eighteen year his mother gifted him with a real sword- a beautiful and light creature called ‘Oidche’ (Night). It was once a prize in her family, won in battle and taken from a cowardly lesser man. The sword had been part of her dowry, and now she handed it to her son. That night there was much partying and drinking – they were Cameron’s after all.
But Tamhas didn’t really become a man until some years later and that gift was given to him by one of the girls in the village. Her name was Mauve, and she was a beautiful spirited girl with hair the colour of flaxen. He had been riding the lands, as he so tended to do, when he first met her and then persisted to ride out to see her every day for several weeks. It was a summer of romance and desire and Tamhas learnt more things about himself in those days than he had in his twenty something years. Tamhas always suspected that one of his siblings found out and told his mother, because quickly and without explanation Mauve was married to a sailor. And by the winter of that year, she was gone from their lands to be with her new husband.
He’s seen her once since, and on that occasion she had three sons of her own strapped to her hips and her apron. Whether it was lust or love, Tamhas wasn’t sure, but he remembers her fondly. Either way, it brought him to his parents with an honest question- why was he not yet married? While marriage in these lands, so cut away from the Capitol, where less of a barter for wealth and power, he was his father’s heir and was more than old enough to be wed. The realisation came upon him that when his father was his age he had three children (as Mauve did) and a women who helped keep him in line. Tamhas needed that, if things with Callum ever became more volatile or the rivalry ever become more serious- if raiders came as they had come for his Grandfather- there were too many uncertain factors and Tamhas knows that duty pertains to marriage and sons is the best way to procure his families line and protect them.

An apple fell from the tree above him and landed with a thunk in the ground next to him. Tamhas turned to look at the glossy green and tender flesh of the fruit and then, slowly, turned his head up into the tree. He expected to see one of his siblings there, grinning down at him and waving. He expected to see Kenna, if he was honest, her flaxen hair pinned up and her dress caught in a tree branch. She was always playing games. But as his eyes went high into the branches he saw nothing more than a crow staring back at him. Tamhas was just a little disappointed, but never the less he reached out for the apple and murmured a word of thanks to the crow who had provided him with this snack.
He bit into the hard skin of the gorgeous green apple and crunched. The fragrant juices filled his mouth and he closed his eyes for a moment to savour the sweet offering. Chewing several times, he swallowed and whistled to himself as he rose from his place on the ground. He moved, just a few metres to the next tree, to where his horse was tied up. Reaching out Tamhas stroked the stallions bay coloured mane and offered the creature a share in the fruit.
“Lets go see what we can find to take home for dinner shall we?” He spoke to the animal, hauling himself into the saddle and letting the animal take the rein a little. Like Tamhas, the horse was a hunting horse, with strong legs and powerful hooves and like his rider, the horse drew excitement from a good lengthy chase. So, with little warning and with no more than a touch from Tamhas, the horse snorted and set of quickly, galloping across the meadow and scaring rabbits down their holes. The beast sounded like rolling thunder and Tamhas cheered, cawing to himself and the crow in the tree.
