In Laguardio, located in the south part of the providence of Calandria, the family Capitani has been bred from the soil of this land, taking care for many centuries to establish and maintain the stability of this portion of Calandria. The House founder, Valente Capitani, was a man of strength and kindness, overseeing the peace for 40 years before he was assassinated by a group of insurgents who wished to overthrow the Capitani family to stake their claim on Laguardio.
Consequently, a civil war broke out where many of the Capitani family members were lost in battle, leaving Valente’s to carry on the family name. After repairing the broken province, Giovanni Capitani, now Lord of Laguardio, assumed control and established a law stating that the firstborn, whether male or female, could lead the House after the birth of his first child, a girl. A provision was included in the law of inheritance when the heir is a woman - that if she marries, she carries on the Capitani name in her children so that their legacy continues and does not assume her husband’s name, though he may keep his.
Despite this promising beginning, Giovanni led a very hedonistic life, ending up with four wives before passing away of disease at the age of 49.
Because of the polygamy, another civil war looming, his eldest daughter passed her title to her brother who began a long line of Lords in the family. However, the civil war took his three wives and then he himself died. This left the lady and her mother, Giovanni’s last surviving wife, to pick up the pieces of what was left. Still fragmented and a mess, Lady Joanna’s children were sons, no daughters, as if Fate hoped to help provide a better life for their family and to preserve the land. Unfortunately, two of her sons were murdered during a minor attack on her home and the third fled, giving up the name Capitani as he declared it cursed. Seeking refuge immediately, Lady Joanna collected the family that was left and migrated to Seravino, promising the loyalty of their family name to the Montefiore family.
Lady Joanna was poisoned by an unknown source as was her mother, leaving her son to carry on their name. Her son had managed to keep his head down and stay peacefully neutral. In this, he married and had five children in his lifetime – Galileo, Emilia, Giovanna, Umberto, and Trista. He lived out a quiet life until the very end when one wishing to spark the flame of civil war again took his life with a single arrow. Without the Montefiore family, the five siblings knew they would have been lost and were very loyal to them until the volcanic eruption happened.
With the splitting of the families, the Capitani family finds themselves once again in the land that holds the origin of their name in the hopes of forging a peace that Laguardio has never seemed to know. With origins comes history and with history comes a great deal of responsibility; vengeance too.
In accompanying the Deliambre family, the Capitani feared retribution from the Montefiores for their perceived betrayal, yet they remained silent on this concern. Because of the Deliambres, they were shown a kindness that has sustained them many a time. Although the Capitani family does know to never mistake kindness for weakness, they feel very indebted to the Deliambre side of the Montefiore family. When both families had managed to speak with each other, the fear died down as rationality and reality set in but the silence did not last forever. With recent attacks on both families, the Capitanis are a little restless and uneasy.
With Laguardio being so close to the ocean, the Capitani family has found profit in the business of trade as they have spices as well as many fruits, mostly coconuts and mangoes. They also have begun to find promising opportunity in the fishing business.
Physically, the members of the Capitani family come in many shapes and sizes but share the trait of medium to dark brown hair with blue or brown eyes. They are wise and silent in nature but are very friendly just the same. They are a strong family who are so close to each other that sometimes the line between cousin and sibling is often blurred. To disturb one member of the Capitani family is to disturb the entire family. They are very skilled in the arts and in combat, useful with just about any weapon you give them – male or female. Although they are very businesslike at times and will use persuasion to get what they want, candor and kindness from others will earn the respect of a Capitani.
