Collin’s original intent was to go to Bordelaix but it appeared things were going in reverse. Apparently the Deveraux princesses would be coming to him only so that they could be escorted to Vanderhall to meet up with the Duke of Vasile. For whatever reason they needed to be there, they acquisitioned him to provide safe passage given the fact that the Desrochers mountains were the most direct route to the guarded Vasilian city, but laden with the wild tribesmen of their region. Given that Collin wasn’t in any particular position to say no, he had to make plans quickly with the men and now came the part of explaining this to his family.
After they had a filling meal full of laughter and other exploits, things were beginning to wind down a bit and Collin felt it was a good time to bring it up.
“I need to bring up something with all of you.” Collin began as he took a swig of his mead and set it aside, “I received a missive from the royal family a few days ago. Apparently the princesses will be visiting Vanderhall on the twelfth of this month. They have asked me to guide them through the mountains in order to shorten their time tables on travel. It appears I will be leaving for Vasile in the next couple of days.”
He knew things were still fresh in regards to discussions he had with his twins, but given that the Princess Antoinette had a way of politely ordering him to assist her with the added benefit of payment made it a situation he was not allowed to refuse. He didn’t really like that, but on the flipside it wasn’t like there was much going on at the moment that required his immediate attention. A trip to Vasile, as he mulled it over, would probably be a great chance to meet the new duke and solidify alliances over the governing of the mountain tribes.
Emery and Felicia who were joining in at the table with them seemed to light up at the prospect of the whole thing. Immediately Felicia replied, “I think that’s a splendid idea, Your Grace! Would any of us be permitted to come with you? I must admit I would love to see my family for a little while if it is at all possible to make those accommodations.”
Collin smiled and nodded casually, “Yes, I think I can accommodate our family in whatever way possible. I don’t know the new duke, however, so I don’t wish to impose too heavily.”
Nodding she replied, “I believe I can write a letter to the duke to let him know the intent of our arrival. My cousin is quite the social type, I’m sure he will not mind.”
“Very well then…” Collin replied with a nod as he glanced over to see how his other children took the news.
