The Deliambre name is precious to her, as the few souls she allows to see into hers, and her greatest priority is their advancement.
Sophia has always been her harshest critic. Despite the outer confidence she displays in her knowledge underneath she has much lower view of herself. She desires the people around her to live in a way that is happy and fulfilled. At the core of things she is a loving woman protective of her family both distant and close, and willing to go to great lengths for what she feels needs to be done.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
A historian by nature, while Sophia is well educated in a variety of subjects, it is history and philosophy where she shines the brightest and expresses the most interest. Many of her personal books she carries are on various topics of the past and the ramifications and views on the subjects. A good, well informed discussion or debate in these is the easiest way to see her let a more excitable side to herself slip and become starry eyed.
Sophia an interest in cartography and is skilled with both reading and charting out map's.
It is noted that few can best Sophia in a game of chess. She's quite the strategist, and enjoys besting her opponents in small competitive games.
Background:
Born in the middle of the Deliambre house's main brood, Sophia was not meant to be graced with anything as extraordinary as being in the line of succession, and instead was unwillingly stuck with rumors of being an illegitimate child. Whispers followed her during her early years of life and according to them everyone from the stable master to her arithmetic tutor was her "real father". The rumors as they were, were just that. They were nothing more than false gossips she had been stuck with. Sophia felt she had no choice but to rise above the rumors and force the people who dared whisper such lies to realize their foolishness. This set a precedent Sophia kept throughout her entire life, that she had to always be better than whatever challenge was thrown her way.
Sophia found her niche within her studies. She drank in scholarly knowledge as much as possible. Her education as a Deliambre left nothing to be desired and she took full advantage of the opportunity to expand on it as much as possible. She studied hard to become an enlightened woman who could hold her own among other intellectuals and earn the respect of anyone who approached her on such topics. Sharpening her book smarts of course lead to her mind being sharpened as a whole. She learned the value of any knowledge, including social. Her skills of observation became precise and well refined, and she learned to navigate a conversation as a noble lady just as well as she could one as a scholar. Her social dabbling became a shared interest between she and her brother Cesare. Closer than age in the others, she found herself around him regularly and did her best to pass on the importance of speech. Something she was happy stuck with him, even if he didn't agree on the importance of presenting an appealing farce.
Her studies combined with her social graces made her a good choice for a diplomat within the family. As she grew older she became more of an expected presence at negotiations and regional events. She made her name in the family through her formation of alliances within these gatherings and her help in securing dealings that over all tilted in their favor. Transitioning from charming the nobles with gossip and her thoughts on the newest volumes they were reading to being a serious arbitrator came naturally without batting a lash.
To Sophia, her family has always come before anything else in her life. Her parents were her greatest inspiration, and encouraged her throughout all the self doubt she faced early in life. Sophia regards her oldest brother with high esteem and her loyalty to him as her Duke as well as a beloved sibling are unwavering and the same courtesy extends to her sister in law along with their children. She and her older brother shared a more evened temperament giving them a very like minded bond. She continues to try and encourage her younger sisters in what she sees as the right direction and striving for their best in all they do, as well as sometimes extending her hennish inclinations toward her brother Cesare despite being the younger of the two. She plays a reversal of her usual role with her sister in law Catalina who has attempted on quite a few occasions to urge Sophia to relax a few of the burdens she places on herself.
Sophia has been working to help with the negotiations and easing of the tensions between the Montefiore's believing the end of the feud will benefit their house. With the attempts not resulted in the way she hoped and the attacks occurring it began to seem more like a pipe dream than an possible outlook though.
Writing Sample:
The estate was abuzz with the staff scattering through the halls in a rush setting up the decor, serving out the food, or rounding up the less productive staff from their hiding spots to help in the preparations. Typical for pre-production of the festivities hosted within the Deliambre home. This was to be in celebration of some cousin just one connection shy of the main branch and their recent marriage. Lords and Ladies would be arriving later in the night to prance about with one another and prattle on about idle gossip that Sophia only cared about for advantages sake. The young lady was currently involved in her own preparations.
She gently applied paint to her lips that were just the right shade of red to compliment the exquisite ruby colored gown and silk wrapped around her body, and flower hairpiece twisted in her curls. Once the last curve of her cupid’s bow was rosy enough she pushed the bronze container away from herself and placed the lid back on. A smirk played on her newly colored mouth.
“Do come in Nanette,” she said to the young woman standing in the door. A curvaceous thing with bright red hair. “It is beneath both I and you for you to skulk in the doorway like mouse waiting to steal kitchen scraps.”
The other woman nodded. “Of course Lady Sophia.” Her accent hinted of Faucheux origins. She stepped inside the room closing the door behind her. She turned back to her mistress. “Is there anything I can do for you?”
Sophia smiled her eyes glancing down at the glittering gems on her vanity. Simpler in design than many of her jewelry it was a simple series of golden chains that looped tightly around one’s neck with pearls dangling from it like little white raindrops. Like everything in her quarters the necklace was lavished and eye catching. A pretty decoration that symbolized her status, no different from her satin bedspread or the priceless painting hanging over the hand crafted vanity gilded with gold she sat at.
Sophia stood up from her vanity and took her place next to the stool. “Sit.” Nanette looked stunned for a mere moment before making her way to sit where Sophia had previously occupied. The noble woman unhooked the necklace. “You received the gown I had made?”
Nanette nodded as she delicately placed the chains over the front her servant’s neck. “It was very generous of you Lady Sophia, certainly not as nice as yours, but…”
“If my hand maiden appears dull then that reflects upon me,” Sophia said her voice even and casual. “Think nothing else of it my dear.” She clasped the necklace back letting it’s weight fall on Nanette’s pale neck. Lighter than even her own skin that compared to some of her family was practically glowing. Except for a few of the ladies of her house that had ended up with the same complexion as the pearls. “There.”
Her hand maiden ran her fingers over the necklace with wonder and a bright grin. “It’s beautiful.”
Sophia scoffed looking down at the trinket, for that’s all it was to her. She leaned over her staring into their reflections. They would shine far brighter that even the glittering gold of any jewelry, she intended to ensure it. “That small decoration shall pale in comparison to us tonight.” She gave the girl a nudging pat on the shoulder. “Now, go get dressed. The sooner you are ready the sooner you can feed me the gossip spreading among the other Ladies’ servants.”
