Character Name:
Daniela Savarese
Age:
17
Gender:
Female
Birthdate:
September 12, 1410
City / Region:
Terre Verde, Seravino
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]:
Savarese
Played by:
Jennifer Connelly
Appearance:
A true Savarese, she is of medium height and slender build with long, dark brown hair that falls past the small of her back. Blessed with the paler complexion of her mother and the rare hazel eyes that bespeak of a mysterious bloodline, she dresses well, always in the palest of colors - whites, pale blues, pale greens, and so on. Earrings always dance from her earlobes, sparkling, ringing or shining depending on the day. When she spends time in the sun, her skin darkens to a pale gold. Her hair is typically worn loose, unless it is woven up in braids to frame her face. There is always a rose in her hair, and the scent of roses lingers about her. She wears two rings - on her right hand, a gold ring carved to look like rose vines, cradling a sapphire rose; on her left, a delicate, gold lady's signet bearing the crest of House Savarese. These are her most prized possessions and never leave her hands.
Personality:
Cultured - As the last living child of the Count, Daniela is well educated. Given the same education as her brother, she has studied languages, mathematics, natural philosophy, histories, as well as land and estate stewardship, jurisprudence, economics and trade skills. But more, she embraced the gentler studies of art, music, poetry and its like. Her favorite is music, of course, and many a night she has spent in her father's company, playing the psaltery as her mother had.
Loyal - Born Savarese, she intends to die as a Savarese. Nothing and no one will turn her from her father, cousins and her House despite numerous efforts to lure her astray. Her choices are made with Terre Verde and her family as her lode-star, carefully weighed before she renders them. Not even love itself will tempt her - she knows too well what love has done to her House and the cost her bloodline has paid.
Adaptive - Different situations call for different faces, attitudes, demeanors. Daniela adjusts to reflect what she must be at any given moment. Some would call her disingenuous, others call it a kind of manipulation. To her, it is merely survival, doing what she must.
Tenacious - Call it stubborn, call it obstinate, call it strong-willed, but once Daniela sets her mind to a goal or a task, little causes her to waver. She is a young woman of her word; oaths, vows and promises are seldom given, but when they are, she does not go back on them. To win her friendship is to gain an ally through thick and thin; to become her enemy is unwise at the very least.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Master vintner, horticulture (emphasis on roses), trade, fashion, psaltery and other musical instruments, spice knowledge
Background:
The youngest child born to Antonio Savarese and his commoner wife, she was the delight of the household from the moment she emerged from the womb. A tiny, dark-haired daughter with her mother's eyes swiftly had father wrapped around her finger. Doted on by both parents and her older brother, Daniela Savarese's first two years were idyllic.
Then the world came crashing down. Shortly before her third birthday, her mother's life was stolen, as was her brother's. Murdered, presumably as a consequence of the ongoing feud between House Savarese and House Sforza, she was left as Antonio's only child, now his heir. The small girl only understood that Mama had to go away, and she would not be coming home. Frightened, confused and overwhelmed, little Daniela turned to her father, finding in him her shelter and her rock.
Her memories of her mother and brother were vague, though Antonio did his best to keep them alive. Her mother's portrait was never shrouded, her jewelry and numerous items bequeathed to her little daughter as memorials of the woman who gave her life.
Educated in the same fashion as her brother would have been taught, she proved an eager student, wanting to prove herself worthy of her father's approval. Embracing the lessons, she was not always adept but did not shy away from hard work; that was simply how her family did things, one of the many lessons acquired from her father, rather than tutors. As Antonio's heir now, she was denied no opportunity to grow, learn, experience, joining him in learning the family's winemaking secrets once she reached her twelfth year.
Father and daughter have remained close, knowing they have only each other to keep the House standing strong. Supported by cousins, they have agreed that the welfare and future of their family remains their first priority, the winery to follow. Standing as lady of the house, Daniela knows the day of justice will come where her mother's and brother's killers will stand before the bar to answer for their crimes. Only then will House Savarese know peace... and her father might allow himself to be happy once more.
Writing Sample:
Approaching the inn, Elena greeted the innkeeper on entry, inquiring politely as to the recovery from the damages inflicted on the building. Certain that the Deliambres would reimburse the man as necessary as the Montefiores would the inn in which they'd been accosted, she couldn't help but sigh. So much damage inflicted, yet she harbored a tiny kernel of hope that from the ashes of the destruction, new prosperity and opportunity might arise. Caterina would indeed face a challenge in Anzio, albeit one she felt the young woman would meet and conquer adroitly.
Satisfied that courtesy was observed, Elena requested to be conducted to the Duchess. Thanking the innkeeper as the man led the way upstairs and to the door that served as her sister's temporary home, she acknowledged the guards on duty, identifying herself as one went to inform Catalina that her sister was present, seeking her company. Would the Duchess admit her?
