The peerage ranking system throughout Archades is based on the medieval/feudal English ranks and titles.

A Brief Overview of Noble Titles in Archades:
King/Queen - The reigning monarch of Archades.
Crown Prince/Crown Princess - The heir to the throne of Archades
Prince Royal/Princess Royal - An honorary rank bestowed by the Monarch, but this person is never the heir.
Prince/Princess - The rank held by children of the Monarch. It may also be conferred on the siblings of a Monarch and their children as courtesy titles.
Duke/Duchess - The ruling head of a region within Archades. Dukes and Duchesses hold fealty to the Crown of Archades. They may create Counts, Earls and Barons. The title passes by inheritance.
Dowager Duchess - The widow of a ruling Duke and mother to the current Duke or Duchess. A Duke who abdicates in favor of his heir is never referred to as a Dowager. This is a courtesy title.
Marquess/Marchioness - The title bestowed on the rulers of Estersea. This title may also be conferred on a Duke's heir. They are able to name Barons only within Estersea. The title passes by inheritance.
Count/Earl/Countess - The head of a House in service to a Duke, loyal to that region. They hold a city, several larger towns and villages, as well as land surrounding that city in trust for the duke. They may create Barons. The title passes by inheritance.
Baron/Baroness - The head of a House in service to a Count or Earl, loyal to that city. Their holdings are typically a castle with several villages or small towns in fealty to him or her. The title passes by inheritance.
Court Baron/Baroness - This is a title conferred as an honor for service to the Crown. It has no land grant or castle, but does receive a stipend of money from the Crown. This title is not inherited and may not be passed to another person.
Baronet - A minor noble, typically in possession of a manor and small village. This title is often given by a higher ranking noble in thanks for a service rendered to that noble. The title passes by inheritance.
Lord/Lady - The lowest noble rank, typically reserved for those born to noble families but not holding official title or lands. This is a courtesy title and may not be passed down.
Knight/Dame - The title granted to individuals by other knights/dames, royalty or dukes for special martial services rendered. This is not a title that can be inherited or passed down.
