Character Name:
Angelia Sandoval
Age:
22
Gender:
Female
Birthdate:
City / Region:
Nacimiento
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable]:
Sandoval
Played by:
Katie McGrath
Appearance: Like her twin brother, Angelia is lithe, tall for a woman, and possessed of a feline-like grace. Blue-black hair spills down her back in tumbling waves, a porcelain face highlighting the blue-green eyes the two share. She is a woman who dresses to reflect her true station – silks, satins, laces, the finest of cottons and linens adorn her body. Fine jewels are not atypical for Angelia. A smile is her most frequent expression, though she is capable of cold arrogance or fiery anger.
Personality:
Outwardly, Angelia shows a gentle, serene countenance. Her expressions are calm and pleasant, her eyes clear and bright. She speaks with modulated tone and musical accent, exuding kindness, generosity and gracious, welcoming warmth.
She embraces the graces and skills of the noble woman of Archades, using soft words and delicate touch to exert her influence over her twin brother and others in power. A modest-seeming young woman, she also takes pleasure in music, especially in dance, and the arts of needlecraft. Social events ranging from picnics to teas, formal banquets and elaborate balls, and the work that goes into such entertainments is her especial joy.
But as a Sandoval, Angelia has her faults. She can be cold and haughty, rigidly formal, expressing her disdain for anyone who fails to achieve her standards of behavior. There is no tolerance in Angelia for the uncouth, the vulgar, or the rude. Disrespect is returned with icy disdain and a rather casual descent into callous ruthlessness. Angelia possess a sensitivity that if exposed, could be used to crush her.
Her temper, while not nearly so incendiary as Dante’s, is still nothing to underestimate. Slower to anger, she is every bit as capable of hot, swift violence or plotting the coldest of revenges. However, Angelia has mastered a level of self-control that Dante has not, granting her a small advantage over her twin brother. She often exerts that self-control upon him, particularly when she feels he is in danger of going too far or overindulging to the point of scandalous excess.
Background:
Born mere minutes after Dante, the heir to the exiled King-turned Duke, Angelia swiftly proved herself the opposite side to her brother. While both were thoroughly indoctrinated into the knowledge that the Sandovals were denied their rightful place as Kings of Archades, Angelia took it far more quietly than her enraged and vengeful brother. The girl with the bright eyes and rich, long hair understood from an early age that the fuel anger provided burned out quickly; it was better to plan for the long-term, to lay plots and plans with an eye to subtlety.
Looking up to her uncle Rico, she strove to learn from him what she could before his part in the family's plan to regain what was lost took him to Bordelaix. From Rico, Angelia learned how to lie with a smile, how to mouth pleasantries while the mind seethed with hatred, and to play the underestimated, unthreatening courtier with the intention of joining her uncle in the Deveraux capitol of Bordelaix.
Throwing herself into the studies assigned to her, Angelia strove to excel, if not achieve a level of perfection. Whether the studies were languages, courtly etiquette, music, heraldry or history, she was determined to prepare herself for just about any possible situation. One never knew when opportunity would present itself to strike at the heart of the vipers who stole the crown.
A little disappointed when her father allowed the Duke of Seravino to choose her cousin Elena, Angelia was reminded that she was truly a Princess born, meant for greater things and better marriages. Mollified by that, Dante then reminded her that she was needed. He would need her in the months to come as they fought to retake their rightful places. Satisfied, she was able to wish Elena well as the betrothal agreements were concluded.
Soon, Angelia will don a new costume and go to join family members already in place to begin the efforts laid to restore the Sandoval family and name to the rank of royalty. The task will not be easy, but she has been prepared and she will do what she must without hesitation.
Writing Sample:
The willow tree on the grounds of the Castillo remained Angelia’s favorite place on the estate with its graceful boughs and the sweeping fronds that fell to conceal the marble bench located beneath it. Frequently, she could be located there, engaged in any number of appropriate occupations from practicing music to trying a new dance to stitching at a new doublet for her brother. Today proved no exception.
Late summer sunshine poured down over Talencia, a golden balm that filtered through the willow’s branches to create a lacy pattern of sun and shadow that flashed off the silver needle flickering in and out of fabric. Angelia succumbed to the blandishments of her cousin Ximena, embroidering her cousin’s dress with tiny pink rosebuds in time for her birthday. She wore a soft smile on her face as Ximena and her brother Fausto played close by. It was good to have the family together once more.
Movement across the lawn seized her attention, bringing blue-green eyes to rise from her work. Recognizing her twin, Angelia smiled and folded the dress, rising in anticipation of his arrival. He had a look on his face that spoke of mischief and fun, the expression a familiar one indeed after earning their father’s approval on some task or other. Holding her hands out to him, she couldn’t wait to hear what his idea would be…
