The history of Clan Connell is as storied as many of the original clans within Archades. The clan possesses the same stock and blood as the originating clans of Cadag and Deveraux. A great deal of the Connell history is oral since many of the records of the clan’s origins were lost in the great volcanic eruption several centuries ago. What is known, however, is that Clan Connell has dwelled within the area known as Glenn Tuathas for many a generation. Indeed, it was its fortuitous location at the base of a grand mountain that provided the necessarily shelter for many refugees after the eruption.
As Vulcanis recovered, the Clans spread throughout the lands once more but Clan Connell saw fit to stay within Glenn Tuathas. Their patience was rewarded. The ash from the volcano, at first seeming like a plague upon the land, bore fruit. The lands of the realm slowly grew lush and verdant. The chronicles of Clan Connell frequently thank one creature for this: the bee. Bees spread the pollen from flower to flower, encouraging them to eventually bear fruit and continue to spread. They were surely the Maker’s helpers in restoring life to the lands.
The Connells quickly associated themselves with the bee. Apiaries were established providing them the means to produce honey, wax, and royal jelly and the myriad of derivations such products provided including candles, meads, and honey ales. These products gave Glenn Tuathas the economic strength to speed along its recovery. The bee had such had such a significant impact that they adopted it into their heraldry, changing from the symbol of the tree to a golden bee on a field of brown.
When Clan Deveraux made their bid for the Crown of Archades, the Connells marched with the valley clans to aid them in this task. However, just as the Cadags, they grew reluctant when the Deverauxs made noise of assimilation. During the centuries after the eruption, the Deverauxs had completely changed. While the Connells did not hold animosity toward them, they disagreed with the Deverauxs’ new way of life.
As such, Clan Laird Geoffrey Connell threw his support behind Willbrard Cadag at the Grand Gathering. With the Stewards of Vulcanis secured, Clan Connell returned their precious home of Glenn Tuathas to become something of an agricultural and economic powerhouse of Vulcanis. As the centuries went on, however, the Connells grow wary of the Deverauxs and growing conflict to the north.
The clans of Vulcanis were doing so well now. Was it truly necessary to maintain their allegiance to a weakened royal family? Perhaps it was time for a change.
Members of Clan Connell are hardy, stout and true. Fair hair is more prevalent than dark as are light eyes. The members of the house are frequently pragmatic, but show a true of love of land and life. As the chief purveyors of mead in the region, they are not afraid to use it to put on a grand old time.
