Character Name: Ruadhan Connell
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Birthdate: November 2nd, 1395
City / Region: Glenn Tuathas, Vulcanis
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Connell
Played by: Kevin McKidd
Appearance:
Ruadhan Connell is a typical example of his clan: reddish hair, steely eyes, strong jaw, stocky frame and a generally grizzled appearance. Fortunately, an easy smile offsets could prove to be an entirely too austere countenance. The man prefers to dress for work and comfort rather than pomp and circumstance. It is not uncommon for a simple combination of tunic and kilt to be worn, or if absolutely needed, trousers. Ruadhan always has some sort of weapon or tool on his person, be it a dagger, axe, or what have you. Sometimes, just sometimes, he looks more like a man out of the wilds than the leader of Clan Connell!
Personality:
On the surface, Ruadhan Connell is a typical clansman: rugged, pragmatic and very straightforward. Such characteristics were a necessity in the yesteryears of Vulcanis, particularly after the massive volcanic eruption. Though the cataclysm is now a very distant memory, the qualities that ensured the clan’s survival are not. Ruadhan’s forebears passed down those redeeming qualities with determination and surety. For the clan, Ruadhan must be the embodiment of everything the clan finds valuable.
As such, Ruadhan is a man that faces challenges and problems head on. There always exists a solution, no matter the situation and Ruadhan does what he deems necessary to find it. Though Clan Connell has been remarkably successful within Glenn Tuathas, it did not preclude them from periods of draught, economic downturn and general hardship. Thanks to his father’s guidance, Ruadhan has been a sure hand, a voice of reassurance and a man of action. Because of the precedent set by his ancestors and his own commitment to his station, Glenn Tuathas is a gem of Vulcanis.
But that can be incredibly tiresome. Being perfect, after all, comes with a heavy price.
Thus, Ruadhan has a tendency to vanish at odd times during the day or not. No one really knows where he goes, much to the chagrin of his steward and family. However, the man always returns just before he is needed. This is not to say that Ruadhan shirks his duty in the slightest, but it is plain to those who know him well that he finds time alone to be quite precious. Just how he spends that time is a mystery to most and he intends to keep it that way.
The man is also prone to a fierce temper, even if it is slowly riled. The man is capable of a fierceness that is nigh stereotypical of Vulcanic clansman. When an argument starts, he finishes it. If the situation devolves into a brawl, he makes certain to throw the final punch. The man is a capable warrior able to wield sword and mace, but he vastly prefers to settle matters without the use of such weapons. Sometimes words can be powerful and fists even more so.
Ruadhan also has a love for the products of his clan. Honey has been a lifesaving commodity for the clan for generations and Ruadhan intends to continue that trend. He spends a good deal of his free time examining the various properties and uses of honey and other bee products. His particular pride and joy is the formulation of various mead and ale recipes. It is considered a fine gift to receive a cask of Connell spiced mead or honey ale. Such products have never failed to be popular, whether at a grand feast or sipping idly before the hearthstone.
Family and clan is everything to Ruadhan. He does his utmost to ensure that everyone has a role to fill and that they are completing their duties to his satisfaction. While this sometimes earns him the reputation of a taskmaster, it is obvious he does so for the betterment of clan and family. This does not preclude him from the occasional spat and disagreement, but he does his utmost to be fair and reasonable as he can. After all, he does love them all deeply, no matter their faults and failings.
Ruadhan Connell is a man that is both easy to understand and difficult to know. The man has a very clear outward, straightforward and determined personality, but just one look in his steely eyes reveals there is far more to learn of him…
Specific Skills or Abilities:

Character History:
Ruadhan was born on a crisp November morning to Geoffrey and Moira Connell. The birth had been a difficult for mother and son with neither almost making it through the night. Yet, Fate smiled upon them both as the sun rose upon the day, blessing them both with. Nonetheless, Ruadhan was something of a sickly child during his early years. Naturally, this brought about deep concern as to whether or not Ruadhan would survive to majority… but Geoffrey was determined to make that so.
Despite his mother’s protests, Geoffrey drove and pushed Ruadhan. The elder Connell firmly believed Ruadhan would have to fight and gain an indomitable inner strength if he were to survive. Thus, Ruadhan’s childhood was not precisely a joyous one, but no one dared argue with Geoffrey over his rearing methods. Family members are firm in their declaration that Geoffrey was never cruel to the boy, but he was rarely gentle and affectionate. That would come only from his mother and perhaps his younger siblings.
In between the lengthy lessons afforded to a young boy of his stature, Geoffrey would frequently take Ruadhan out of the fields, dales and forests of Glenn Tuathas. In addition to cutting his teeth on beekeeping, Ruadhan was to learn all of the lands under the clan purview like the back of his hand. Indeed, it was not uncommon for Geoffrey to take Ruadhan blindfolded to a random location, abandon him and expect him to return home in time for supper. At first, this did not happen and Ruadhan was lost for days, but he managed to survive and become a staunchly determined man. Many a lesson was learned in that wild.
Upon reaching the age of majority, Geoffrey accepted Ruadhan a man of the Clan and proudly declared him his heir. The education, however, did not end. Ruadhan was expected to tend to fields, aid the beekeepers and contribute to the clan in a worthwhile manner. It was around this time that he discovered his love of mead and ales. He sampled a great deal (sometimes too much), but he appreciated the nuances and flavors in both. Under the guidance of brew masters, Ruadhan eventually formed some of his own formulation, some of which became quite popular.
At the age of twenty-one, Geoffrey Connell was grievously injured in a hunting accident and died of the resulting wound and infection. Ruadhan appeared to have no hesitation in accepting the mantle of responsibility placed upon him. As expected, there was resistance from the lower clans at the change in leadership, one of which challenged that right. Despite attempts otherwise, the determination of the MacDonoughs grew until a confrontation was forced.
Rather than all-out war, Ruadhan attempted to negotiate and that led to a rather famous exchange of fists. Despite Ruadhan’s siblings attempting to intervene to fight on his behalf, Ruadhan held his own ground and proved the victor. Since that day, the MacDonoughs have held a begrudging respect for Ruadhan Connell.
Some years were blessed and some were cursed, but through thick and thin, Ruadhan learned the hard lessons of leadership and has been more or less successful in leading Glenn Tuathas through prosperity. When necessary, Ruadhan led his clan into battle to keep Vulcanis stable and secure, and fought mightily against the Cruachs more than once. However, rumors of the Southern Tribes movements have stirred anew and Ruadhan has been diligently investigating.
The time for war may be upon them once again…

I might forgive for your fall, but I don’t reckon your father will! However, such a thought was not immediately voiced. After all, if he were to do so, it would immediately give away his identity and shatter the sanctity of the proceedings. While Donato was hardly a priest in his own right, he did have a modicum of respect for the Triune and the Church. They had done so much for Terre Verde in the world, in spite of their sometimes questionable practices. While Donato had even debated becoming a knight for the church!
But that as neither here nor there.
“Search your heart and mind, my child. Search them well. Put aside your body’s desires and lusts and gaze upon the true path for yourself. If you commit yourself to this path, you must be prepared to face the consequences of traveling such a road. Once the journey begins, it can be difficult to turn back, especially once it affects others.” Perhaps Donato would not be such a poor priest after all…
“Nonetheless, there should be a penance. Would mucking the stables work for you?” Suddenly, an amused smile curved his lips.
