Character Name: Wilhelm Romanov
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Birthdate: May 8, 1402
City / Region: Vanderhall, Vasile
House: Romanov
Played By: François Arnaud
Appearance:
Wilhelm stands at the height of five feet and eleven inches with an athletic build. Physically, Wilhelm is quite similar to his older brother, Marcus. Both Romanov men have dark brown hair of a medium length that often give off a light, but attractive messy look. The only main and evident difference between the two brother’s are their eyes. Wilhelm has brown eyes to go along with the rest of his features.
Appearances are important for the younger brother and as such he is rarely seen out in public without looking his best in the best fabrics that his family name can permit him to have. However, unlike other people, Wilhelm doesn’t need to be dressed in complicated outfits. Instead the younger Romanov tends to dress in rather simple tunics that offer him ease in his movements while still giving off a sharp and noble look.
Personality:
Darius was the perfect son, Marcus was the black sheep of the family and for many people whom have encountered the three, Wilhelm is often described as the underrated son. A quick learner, Wilhelm is definitely not a fool. His numerous months spent travelling the Vasile regions and learning from each of those cities educators has allowed him to gain a good knowledge in many arts. However, he is gifted in the art of war, strategy and statesmanship. The months spent taking care of court business while his father was too busy in his depression have proven Wilhelm capacities to govern a city and men.
Not uncommon among strategist and those good in statesmanship, Wilhelm is a calculating man. He rarely acts based on emotions, but by evaluating the situation’s pros and cons. An approach that is used in mostly all of his dealings in life aside from with his immediate family where the man’s emotions for them have tended to surpass his need for rationality.
He’s not a hard man to approach and make friends with. Polite, diplomatic and charismatic, the man often stays in peoples memories after their encounter. However, one is never certain if the man is truthful or merely keeping up appearances for the sake of relations. The few speculations and the fact he was banished by his sister-in-law when she was alive haven’t helped people make an idea on such a question.
Wilhelm is an ambitious man. Being the third son has always left him a certain desire to do something remarkable, but he also knows that those who try to do something too badly always end up falling to their doom. As such, he knows his place and the limits that he must work within to accomplish what he wants. Unlike his brother Marcus, Wilhelm was never seen butting heads with the authority and has no intentions of doing so with his brother. He’s content of working from the sidelines rather than being the face people recognize to power.
In between his ambitions, his qualities as a statesmanship and the uncertainty of his truthfulness in his words or actions, there is one thing that is unquestionable and it’s the man’s loyalty and caring for his immediate family. Anyone who attempts to harm or harms one of them always ends up with Wilhelm in their path somewhere down the road in their life. Revenge is best served as a cold dish as they say.
Background:
The third son of the second son in a family places a young boy right in the middle of a family tree. The one place where you lack the major importance of the first branch, but also lack the complete ignorance of others about your existence. Wilhelm was stuck in a position with the rest of his siblings where his father demanded the utter best from all of them as a way to try and show their worth above the first branch. However, the third son was from the earliest days of his existence caught watching a rift between the way his father treated his two older brothers. Darius as the eldest was always given the best things and the most attention in his development. Such a treatment of favouritism left the others scratching at what they had to try and succeed in their father’s expectations. A task his other older brother thankfully considered not worth attempting. Marcus reputation as the black sheep of the family in the eyes of their father finally allowed Wilhelm that possibility of invisibility. No matter what he did, he was never going to be as good as his eldest brother, but neither was he going to be as bad as Marcus for Viktor.
Wilhelm was always a quick learner in his lessons and one who adored to learn. A trait that was not uncommon among the Romanovs. If he never gained a good amount of attention from the best educators since they were preoccupied mostly with Darius, Wilhelm was able to liberate free time that permitted him to expand his interest out into other branches of the world. A window of opportunity that was increased when he was twelve due to his brother’s Marcus capture in bed with a young girl. The anger the event caused in his father pushed Wilhelm even further into the shadows as nonexistent to most. If he wandered and took opportunities, the young Romanov made sure to never go too far or feel too safe in his position. An attitude that allowed the young man to never be caught in the crossfires of his father’s anger. As Darius came of age and their father was too preoccupied with his betrothal attempts to a wealthy merchant, Wilhelm began tagging along with Marcus and their cousin Brent when he could.
As time passed and they grew older, Marcus set out to visit the region and the world. An accomplishment Wilhelm followed suit, but to a lesser extent. He visited the region of Vasile many times and made connections of his own in the different families that lived and governed the cities under the Romanovs thumb. Wilhelm was sixteen when he lost his virginity to a lady of Fendris Port or at least that was where they had met and done the deed. From that moment forward, Wilhelm discovered like Marcus one of his favourite past times. However, the young man took a much more reserved approached to accomplishing the deed. With patience, Wilhelm analyzed and chose his ladies specifically and kept his circle small so the word didn’t spread. By the age of twenty, the last Romanov brother had a circle of ladies for his benefit at the count of one per every city in Vasile. However, Wilhelm didn’t only enjoy the specific ladies he had chosen in each city he visited. His days in those city as the son of the second branch of Romanovs allowed him access to a multitude of different educators in many different subjects.
Wilhelm returned to Vanderhall upon receiving word that his father, Viktor was to be crowned as the Duke of Vasile. The youngest brother hadn’t paid much attention to the fatalities occurring in the first branch of the family. However, upon his return the clouds seemed to remain over their heads as Wilhelm watched his eldest brother die in the tournament joust. An activity the man had done so many times in his life. Sir Bogdan was sentenced to death by his father’s blind anger even though the man claimed innocence and ignorance to the fact that his jousting spear had metal war point under a larger false blunted one.
The youngest son tried his best after the death of his eldest brother to help his father, but the man was lost in his terrors and sadness to the lost of his favourite son. Wilhelm began going out at night with his brother in the city to get away from his father’s state. Throughout the months it took for their father to find his eternal sleep in his drink, Wilhelm tried his best to help his sisters and his sister-in-law through their father’s troubles since Marcus was more concerned with continuing their lifestyle of fun and debauchery they had always enjoyed previously. Wilhelm still loved such a lifestyle, but he also acknowledged the responsibilities that now laid on their shoulders as the two remaining sons of the ruling Duke until their nephew would be old enough to rule. Wilhelm would not only help his sisters, but he’d also take a more hands on approach to the administrative tasks that fell upon his father and his nephew especially in the last month or two of the man’s life. Wilhelm was the one to discover his father’s dead body in the morning.
Adelaine downfall into paranoia after Viktor’s death made things worst in Vanderhall. Wilhelm attempted to the best of his capabilities to bring a certain sense of stability to the court, but would soon find himself in the middle of Adelaine paranoia. By the powers given to her as the mother of the new Duke, Adelaine banished Wilhelm from court for supposedly plotting against her and her son to place his brother as the Duke or even himself. Her claims were farfetched and very few truly attempted to defend the man. Without the right to be in court, Wilhelm kept relations with a few of the men that had served his father and his uncle. He left for a day of riding with his brother and sister only to come back to the castle to the news of Dimitrius death. Later that night Adelaine took her life out of grief.
Marcus became the new Duke of Vasile, but it took time before he did his coronation ceremony. Wilhelm was present in the woods as he watched his brother go through the ritual. Wilhelm was now the closest to power that one could be as the heir. Some began speculating that Adelaine’s claims were maybe filled with truth. It has been a few months now that Marcus announced his new title as Duke of Vasile. There hasn’t seem to be death following them as much as their predecessors which has brought a certain stability to the speculations that there was maybe more involvement in the numerous deaths than merely a god involvement. The same thought has crossed Wilhelm’s mind as well, but he prefers to put those thoughts behind him and look to the future by his brother’s side. The man has continued his lifestyle of fun and debauchery with his brother.
Writing Sample:
The vows were soon done and the festivities begun across the hall as a lady began singing. The girl had a beautiful voice and easily got the atmosphere in the room going. While everyone seemed to have begun dancing or regrouping themselves with other nobles, Alejandro stood still in the same place he had been previously. His eyes glanced around the room at the different lords present. They stayed glued to the face of a man for a longer period of time. Bastien Corteo was the other councillor of the Queen alongside him, but it was no secret that he was the true sole councillor. Alejandro's position was only one offered in an attempt of poor taste to blind him to the true position that the west island truly held upon these easterners.
The Queen had offered discussions of marrying one of his sisters to the Belmontes, but as much as her sisters were beautiful, they wouldn't bring any true possibilities of power unless the Queen came to past before any heirs were produced by her. If the Belmonte lord had coexisted with death for his whole life, he wasn't ready to go further down such thoughts.
As he brushed those thoughts away, he turned his attention to Antoinette that was speaking with her sister a few feet away. He slowly walked up to the two young girls with his hands behind his back.
“Princesses.” The Belmonte lord spoke up a few feet away from them. The man waited for their acknowledgement before taking a step forward or speaking.
