Specific Skills or Abilities: Dancing, Poetry, Avid reader, Maternal instinct, Singing, Story Teller, Self defense
Personality:
Nathalie is not particularly sociable, preferring to stay in that of her own company rather then seek company with others. She is a dutiful daughter to her father, doing her best to represent her family and her country whilst floating about with her brothers and sister. She has no real ambitions either, She wants to get married to a good husband and have babies.
While most would consider her odd or introverted, she is actually quite average. She just doesn't know when to get out of her own imagination.
Once she is up to date on a subject she can normally give fairly sound advice. Now that there might be some changes made, she is not as outwardly "childish" as she once was. She realizes now that she must play the part of a noble woman in public so as not to embarrass her family. Though she has no real interest in court life or the goings on, she knows that she can no longer ignore the fact that the outside world exists and must learn of it.
Character History:
Nathalie is the youngest child of Henri Devereaux. Henri’s brood is rather spread out in age, Nathalie’s eldest brother, Pascale, being twelve years her senior. Evony, closest in age, is a full six years older, and thus, Nathalie is truly ‘the baby’ of the family. She isn’t a simpleton or feeble minded – she’s very intelligent. She simply finds ‘stories’ far more interesting than most real life pursuits.
She was a very quiet child, she was not likely to scream and cry, or make a fuss. Her favorite time was when Mother would read her bed time stories. As she grew, they went from being bed time stories to being anytime stories. Her mother had seen her daughters appreciation of literature and nurtured it, finding it good for the young girl who was too small by most accounts. When she was 6 her family was sent to the small island nation of Montenoire where her father would serve as emissary for the King. She has only vague memories of life in Archades and has looked upon this other state as her home for most of her life. It was there that she began her lessons in how to become a proper young noble woman and there that she lost her mother. It was a loss that touched her deeply, in ways that has never really shown on the surface.
Evony was offered a position as a Lady-In-Waiting to the former Grand Duchess Amina Remington which she accepted. She formed a close friendship with Kathryn and Nicholas. Much like Evony, Nathalie looks on Kathryn as a sister. She likes the fact that she can tell Kathryn stories and talk to her about books that she just read. Nathalie sees Nicholas as a white knight, who just has a bad reputation. She finds herself drawn to his magnetic personality, as seems to be that way with most young women in his presence. Once he charmed her into doing his math work for him, she found out about it after she was done and was alright with it.
After the loss of their mother Nathalie grew much closer to her older sister, who in some ways filled the gap left behind by reading her bedtime stories like their mother used to. Nathelie’s brothers are much older and being boys, were never such good companions. While Bayard at least was kind to her, always joking about and teasing her in a friendly way. Pascal had always been more aloof and as the eldest, he also had many responsibilities that kept him removed from Nathalie’s daily routine. She did not spend much time with either of them, or her father for that matter. So after her mother’s passing, her time was spent more often in solitary pursuits, or with Evony. In her grief she developed a strong imagination, and has been able to find solace in her own head, and in books.
Now after 13 years she is to return to Bordelaix to attend Princess Nicolette's Coronation. While there is much planning to be done, Natalie is mostly worried about bringing her favorite books with her. While she does hope for a grand adventure on the way, she does not see life at court as grand. Also she is not so worried about marriage or flirting, her father will arrange her match and she will honor it. Simple as that.
She is also working hard to get herself up to date with the fashions and politics of today. Changes ar coming and she must be ready to step up to the plate and accept them. She knows this will be a challenge for her, but she is willing to do what it takes to see her brothers and sister succeed.
Writing Sample:
Nathalie sat with her sister entertaining the ladies of her fathers dinner party. Evony seemed to have run of the room and was keeping everyone occupied with one story or recollection after another. Nat like this about Evony. It gave her the freedom of daydreaming while not being rude. She just couldn't find an interest in what the other ladies were saying.
She thought about the book she'd read the night before, a fantastic story about a mermaid finding her prince. She pondered on mermaids a while. They didn't seem to be held back by the stuffiness of society that the humans on land had to adhere to. She saw the color of the scales in the mermaids tails. The were the color of polished gems and, like those gems, shone in the diffused sunlight of the ocean. The Queen was beautiful, her tail amethyst purple and her hair as pale as the moon. She wore a gold crown encrusted with pearls, in was as tall and magnificent as any crown found here on land.
She'd been watching a scene in her mind when her sister tapped her on the knee, forcing her back to reality. She already knew that her father would be hearing abut this. She dreaded the conversation that was going to happen later. "I'm sorry, what was the question?"
