Character Name: Isabella Sandoval
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Birthdate:
City / Region: Nacimiento
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Sandoval
Played by: Hailee Steinfeld
Appearance:
The youngest of the Sandovals is also the smallest, with long, curling dark hair and ivory skin. Like her sisters and brothers, she has dark blue eyes. She prefers bright colors in her dresses and flowing fabrics that make her feel graceful and taller, and she loves high heeled shoes, and of course Bella loves jewelry.
Personality:
Like her sisters and brothers, Isabella was brought up to know who she was born to be, a Princess. She tries to be serene and intelligent like Angelia, but as confident and trend-setting as Maricela. She is not sure who she wants to be yet, but Bella has a way of taking care of people, and making things better for everyone around her. Whether it's bandaging a cut, or mending a torn seam, or bringing tea, Isabella is a fixer. Her father likes to call her the little mother.
She is a typical young girl, full of dreams and fancies and a very active imagination. In her mind, Isabella is a grand lady, admired and loved by all, but in reality, she is a little shy and nervous around crowds of people. Her family has kept her very sheltered and until now, she has never really left Nacimiento, making her some-what innocent and naive.
Isabella is all heart, wearing it on her sleeve. She is very quick to see and feel the good in people, even those who are supposed to be her enemies. Very gentle by nature, she can't stand to see anyone in pain. This means she tries to take care of her sister Angelia, knowing the family's angel is in delicate health, and makes sure that the rest of her family gets enough rest, proper food and the like.
She is not very wise about politics, much to her father's dismay, but she has not been left in the dark about the general plan. Knowing she probably can't be much help, Bella keeps herself busy with the little things that keep home comfortable and everything going smoothly.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Sewing
Medicine
Court Skills
Dancing
Soothing/Calming others
Managing a home
Character History:
Born the last of the Duke of Nacimiento's six children, Isabella was welcomed just the same as her other brothers and sisters. Looked after by those siblings, she was closest to Sebastian, who was the most patient with her. Cela was always too busy for her, and the twins were much older, plus Angelia being sick, she was shooed away so that her oldest sister could rest and not be disturbed. Rafe was training, but didn't seem to mind her watching.
It wasn't until Bella was about eight that she started to figure into her family's actions. Thanks to the time she spent with Sebastian in the libraries, she had learned all she could to help Angelia as a little care-taker, and when Rafe got cut or bruised, she was there to help tend to him. Cela was still distant, her pretty older sister preferring the company of older girls and her mirror, but Bella looked up to her and tried to be the little lady so that she could be near. Dante was the brother she knew the least but as she helped to nurse Angelia, that changed.
At her mother's insistence, Bella was taught about medicine from the family's physician, who considered her like an apprentice. He taught her about how to care for the sick and the wounded, what medicines were best used when, and how to get them. She began to spend more time in learning how to make those medicines, trying to save their mother when she fell ill. Amina died despite her best efforts, for which she blames herself and worries that her family does too. There had to have been more she could and should have done.
Unfortunately, Amina's death had a very strong impact on Isabella. She set aside being a child then and devoted herself to caring for the entire family, taking her mother's place as the peace-maker and the one who made sure everything ran smoothly. Angelia could not do it, since she was involved in the family's plans to re-take the throne, and Cela was not interested in it. So she took over running the house, needing to be busy. It was not easy for her to be left behind when her brothers and sisters left Nacimiento, but letters helped and Joaquin made it clear she was good company for him.
Bella has never thought of herself as a princess, but now that she is sixteen, she has been sent to Bordelaix to join with her brothers and sisters, to learn about life at court and to prepare her for what her life will be when her brother Dante becomes King. Hoping that her brothers and sisters will see that she is almost an adult and anxious to prove herself, she is a little scared but looking forward to re-uniting with them.
Writing Sample:
They were leaving for Bordelaix in a day or two, since they had to be back in time for Nicolette's ceremony. The journey wasn't going to take very long, just a day and a half, but Juliette was not looking forward to riding in the carriage again for hours. It was not proper for her to ride Argent, and he had been sent back to Bordelaix already. Plus it wasn't fair to her ladies to abandon them to each other, she reminded herself. This was her task and she took it seriously.
She was sitting in the gardens of the Delamaras' estate, just enjoying the sea air and the coolness compared to Bordelaix. It was rather pleasant in Lavigne, watching the ships come into the harbor in the distance. Part of Juliette wished she could say away on one of the departing ships, but her place was here. She could dream, though. Sitting alone with one of the knights not too far away to guard, the solitude was nice. Olyvia and Martine had something else to do, and their guests had gone down into the city. It made for a nice chance to breathe and relax.
Juliette wasn't doing anything but sitting and watching the water and ships when Lord Nicholas came looking for her, nor was she all that hard to find. Sitting in the sunshine felt good right now, warm on her hair and dress, today's being a green in color. Her back was to the manor-house, so she did not see him coming. The knight straightened and nodded politely to him, opening his mouth to warn Juliette that she was about to have company.
