Background:
It seems Ahern Deschênes and his beloved wife were blessed a second time, welcoming another baby boy into the world. Adeus would be his name and the moment he could walk and talk, he was given lessons in fighting and a tutor was hired to teach him how to read and write. As a child it was clear to both of his parents that he was not interested in learning how to hold a bow or wield a sword. In fact, Adeus was quite clumsy with a sword as a boy and lacked skills most boys had. Adeus loved to learn and even when his lessons were over, he would continue on with whatever the tutor was teaching him.
Immediately, Adeus’ father shortens his tutoring lessons and personally taught him how to properly use a sword and shoot an arrow a long side his brother, Daragh—who he became extremely close with and did most of his practicing with. It took a lot of practice before Adeus could perfect the arts of fighting but once he did, he began to like it a little more than learning. Ahern Deschênes also taught his son about the city they ruled over and how important the people of this very city were to the Deschênes. Still a boy, he like many other males of his family worked beside the people and he enjoyed it very much. Of course, he was always alongside his brother when he worked, never wanting to part from him. He got to know the people his family protected and he enjoyed the woods.
The woods are where his little sister, Breena, played and spent most of her time. Adeus was a typical older brother and when it comes down to his sisters, he is very protective. Adeus would often follow his little sister in the woods to make sure she was alright and that nothing happens to her. He learned how to climb tree just to go unnoticed— although that would not last too long because when he would grow bored, he would let little Breena know he is there and have her join him.
Whilst Adeus was a pretty normal looking child, when he entered his teen years Adeus had become very handsome. Women began to swoon over him and although he did not notice, his mother did and she taught him how to act like a gentlemen because like most Deschêne men, he was very masculine. The lessons his mother taught to him stuck as he realize it is how men of other houses acted particularly the King. Now a young man, he realize that the King was a very important man and anyone who was a part of his council was important too as well as their family. The Deschênes were one of the best families in Archades in Adeus’ eyes, why weren’t they apart of the royal court? Adeus often asked himself this question as well as his father who waved it away.
When Daragh became baron, Adeus tried to push his brother in the direction of court. He pushed and pushed until it was pretty clear to Adeus Daragh could not withstand even more than what he was already handling and like their father, he was not into the whole fancy lifestyle. Being a baron at a young age almost seemed like too much for his older brother and Adeus realize that, deciding to make it his duty to move to court and make his family one of the most powerful families in Archades.
Writing Sample:
Sofia could not find her cat, Louie. The night before, she remembered him sleeping at the foot of her bed but when she awoke, he was not there. Sofia questioned her servants, asking if they have seen the cat roaming the house and none could recall seeing him.
She spent a good amount of time looking for Louie, only to become devastated when she could not find him. The fat tomcat was supposed to be her companion to the Bordelaix, he was supposed to keep her company on the ship and occupy her time while she waited for them to arrive. Now she would have to choose a new companion, one of her little beauties. The decision would not be hard at all and although she loved her dogs, she knew only one would be able to accompany her. Charlie, her fawn colored dog, would be the one she would choose because unlike her littlermates she could stomach the voyage. Charlie was also calm, unlike her sisters Lulu and Marie. Sofia would be able to take her with her wherever and the dog would just happily sit on her lap.
In a small trunk, Sofia had all of her dog’s necessities quickly packed away by servants while she got dressed. So much time – maybe even hours were spent looking for Louie. The young woman almost forgot about herself and what she needed to be done. She would be running a little late to the docks. Flavia would most likely scold her for being late and Sofia would feel bad for holding her family up. But she would not rush. If she rushed getting dressed, it was likely that her appearance would look sloppy and Sofia valued herself too much to let that happen. The servants helped tie her corset, then helped her put on an elegant teal colored dress which was ruffled around the waist. The dress’ sleeves were long and it was almost belle-shaped. Sofia found the dress to be quite simple and easy to stride around in. Since she found her look to be simple yet elegant, she did absolutely nothing to her hair but brushed it. She placed a lovely hat on the top of her head that matched her dressed and made her way out the house with a servant carrying her trunk and her dog’s.
Sofia saw her siblings at the docks the minute she stepped out and walked toward them with poise. She had her hands pressed together in front of her as she did too. Sofia smiled politely, never looking back at the dog following her closely and the servant carrying her trunk. When she was close enough for them to hear her she spoke, ”I am truly sorry.” Sofia’s voice was pleasant. ”I had some personal issues to resolve and lost track of time.”
