Character Name:
Brody Connell
Age:
25 yo
Gender:
Male
Birthdate:
January 3
City / Region: Glenn Tuathas, Vulcanis
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]:
Connell
Played by: Simon Woods
Appearance:
Brody is a handsome young man, and all the ladies know it. And he knows all the ladies know it, too. He doesn't spend hours polishing himself in front of a mirror, however. His looks tend to lean a little more toward the unkempt, perhaps even a little roguish. His red hair is often allowed to grow out a little before he finally trims it, and his blue eyes are the envy of many women. Or, perhaps, their downfall. He is well muscled, though still lean, and strong enough to accomplish most any task he sets out to do. His clothes are typically more utilitarian in nature, especially when working, though he has been known to wear finer clothes at special events. When ladies are in attendance, he often looks a little finer than usual. Brody stand at a formidable height of 6'4" and towers over many, except perhaps members of his own family.
Personality: Brody is a true knight with a heart of gold. He feels a great pride and joy in helping people and defending them, especially his cousin and his family. He would give the shirt off his back for someone in need and can always be counted on for just about anything. However, he is also a bit of a ladies man. They love him and he knows it, using it to his advantage. Of course, he had made an enemy of many a clansman, and others, because of this. It doesn't help that he's a very confident sort, either. Many view it as cockiness, but he simply knows what he is capable of, and if he occasionally flaunts it, well...Brody can be a bit full of himself, and yes, that does often lead to his arrogance. He also harbors a deep love of family and a soul-deep loyalty to his family, his clan, and his region.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Skilled horseback rider
Skilled with weapons- sword, ax, and knife especially
Good in hand to hand combat
Tactics
Eloquent- to many a lady's demise
Character History: The oldest son of the fourth line of Connells, he always knew he wanted to be a knight. There was rarely a time he didn't have some sort of weapon in his hand, even when he was but a toddler. Wooden swords, bow and arrow, and small knives were the first weapons he sought to master, eventually moving up to larger, heavier, metal weapons as he grew.
Time with his family, however, was always made on a daily basis. He is very close to them, though their interests may differ and vary. Brody knows the importance of family, especially since he has seen the loss of an aunt and an uncle, as well as the affect it had on others in the clan. One never knows how much time they have, so he plans to enjoy every moment possible.
It was also clear from an early age that Brody was a caring and considerate young man. He was always willing to help with just about any chore or duty, no matter how unsavory it might be to some. Not only that, but he was always helping those in need, be it noble or commoner. Children, especially, hold a soft spot for him, though he does not discriminate in his giving ways.
The only trait, it seems, people have not been overly attracted to over the years has been his confidence. He knows what he is capable of and what he can do, and he sees no reason to deny it. Unfortunately, some have come to view it as arrogance or cockiness. Yet it's not like he goes around picking fights or attempting to prove himself. He doesn't feel he has to prove anything to anyone. But that doesn't mean he isn't a little full of himself, and he can be a bit arrogant.
None of this has changed since he became a knight. In fact, it has only made him a better person, in his eyes, and more able to do the good he loves. Brody takes great pride in his accomplishments, especially since he has harbored this dream since childhood. Now that he as achieved it, he is considering the next goal in life and looks forward to all that life has to offer.
On the matter of Clan politics, Brody's view is very similar to that of his cousin, Ruadhan. He isn't afraid of a little conflict and grows tired of Merthen's idealistic view on things. Yes, it would be wonderful if noone ever had to fight or die for a cause, but it happened and one shouldn't shy away from conflict if it is necessary. On the view of the Deverauxs, he could take them or leave them. Brody has nothing in particular against them, though he wonders if they should rely on them as much as they do. Still, they do bring business into Glenn Tuathas, so he is currently content with their relations.
Writing Sample: Metal on metal rang out through the training yard as the young knight sparred with his partner. Muscles rippled with every movement, sweat glistening on his biceps and brow. Of course, he was well aware of the three young ladies that stood nearby. He could practically feel their eyes on him and they ooh-ed and ahh-ed at the spectacle the men were making. Even if he received a nick or two from the opposing sword, he knew he had already won the affection of the ladies. They would likely even offer to help bandage his wound.
However, he didn't plan on getting even a scratch today. With a grin on his face, and a little more pomp than necessary, he disarmed his opponent to a round of applause from the watchers nearby. After saluting the other man, Brody turned and walked toward the three women, a grin on his face as he made a show of sheathing his weapon. Opting to leave his shirt off, knowing it would work more to his advantage, he bowed gracefully and struck up a conversation.
