Character Name: Giuliana Tesoro
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Birthdate: October 31, 1410
City / Region: Pistoia, Seravino
House [ Birth, Marriage if applicable ]: Tesoro
Played by: Lia Sedoux
Appearance:
Giulia likes to think of herself as a fairly fashionable person, especially in that she enjoys trying new dresses, new hairstyles, new types of makeup and so on. This is not to say that she goes overboard with fashion statements, but more that she is appreciative of variety. Indeed, she partially does so in hopes that her twin Sophia will catch on to some of her sensible choices. Like her twin, she is slender and willowy, yet does not look so fairy like in her countenance. Giuliana strives to make a good impression through dress and manner, if only to further the goals of House Tesoro. One particular item that is constant with her is a golden bracelet clasped by a dragon's head that bears dark blue eyes.
Personality:
In a few ways, Giuliana was an exception rather than a rule of the Tesoros. More influenced by her mother than the rest of the family, Giuliana displays an uncommonly gentle and kind soul. However, one should not mistake her gentle nature for a weak one. There lies within her a spine surely made of steel, though it is clearly wrapped in velvet. Indeed, the combination of her mother’s influence and the close relationship of her sister tempered some of the natural haughtiness of the Tesoros.
Due to tending her younger sister Sophia’s volatile temperament, Giuliana has become extremely observant of people, particularly their emotions. It is often said that she knows what they are feeling before they are even aware of it. This, she feels, has given her a distinct advantage in interacting with people. Though it can’t necessarily be said she can always catch a liar, it is usually unwise to try to deceive her. This also had an unintended side effect of becoming her siblings’ shoulder and ear. Giuliana was always one to listen, offer practical advice when asked for and provide sympathy when it was clearly needed.
It is with her sister Sophia that the relationship is both very close and somewhat tumultuous. Through many years of hard work, she has helped her dear sister learn to at least partially cope with her intense emotions. In some ways, Giuliana both fears and envies her sister. On the one hand, she does not wish to see Sophia neither be completely overcome by her emotions and on the other, she wishes she could feel as strongly as she did.
While Giuliana is highly observant of emotions and caring of her family, her emotions are not nearly as strong or passionate as she might like. This may do with the fact that she does not necessarily believe in love (thanks to a poor encounter with it), as that is a reality only relegated to the commoners of the land. She had to focus more on duty, tending to her family and furthering the line as requested of her. Fortunately, Giuliana is not completely dispassionate; she is very fond of singing, just like her mother.
Specific Skills or Abilities:
Household management
Logistics
Music
Sewing
Bird keeping
Character History:
Born first of twins to surprised and overjoyed parents, she was far quieter than her twin sister. While her sister screamed at the world, Giuliana took in her surroundings patiently. Giuliana’s life was uneventful during the first several years of her life, though her education did begin young. It was, surprisingly, her twin’s nature that caused the more gentle and maternal side of Giuliana to come out, while still somehow maintaining the Tesoro’s tendency toward haughtiness.
Giuliana’s years up to puberty were relatively uneventful, save for their brothers’ training in combat, family members letting loose their mortal coils and a fiercely temperamental younger sister. Amazingly, the young woman managed to maintain her caring, yet dispassionate nature in the face of such challenges despite discovering her love of singing (just as Sophia found her love of the harp). It was as though she had been aware from a young age that she was destined to be her family’s rock in tough times.
That ended up being more true than expected.
While her brothers were going about their various business, Sophia was venturing into darker territory. At the behest of her mother, Giuliana took to stalking after her and once she was aware of the situation, it was easy to inform mother as to what was happening. After all, cuts on fingers and exhausted countenances were easily explained away. Even better, Sophia improved in the following weeks.
In the months after that, Giuliana met a handsome young merchant by the name of Robert. He was what young women such as herself dreamt of him being: charming, handsome, polite and terribly passionate. Though Giuliana never gave into true impropriety, they shared a young and fast romance that frequently left her head spinning. Giuliana soon realized that she would not mind spending the rest of her life with his man, but when she confessed this to her father, the reaction was a cold one. He was naught but a merchant and not worthy of her noble blood. To make matters worse, her father sent him away and Giuliana never saw him again. It was this event that led her to believe that love was, indeed, just a fool’s dream.
Several years passed and Giuliana continued her education in matters of reading, writing, musicianship and managing a household. She became rather good at the latter two areas, priding herself on her ability to right an effective ship. She also works diligently to encourage her siblings’ strengths, but worries for the day she will have to marry. How will Sophia manage without her?
Writing Sample:
“Oh, dear, only for tonight? Are you certain that you cannot provide strong safeguards for the future? I thought you could predict such things, my dear. That ability should have become all the stronger now that you are duchess of my home.” The statements were, of course, being made entirely in jest, but he did have great respect for her thoughts and ideas. The recent debacle with House Delamara proved that! “Very well. I shall accept my fate, if my I must.”
Taking the brush in hand, he gave her a smile before settling beside her on the bench before her mirror. “Oh, good, I’m glad it does because I do not plan on stopping. The day a Montefiore stops feeling is the day they are no longer with us.” Even the more outwardly calm members of the family could become quickly consumed with passion. It was a strength in Niccolo’s opinion.
Carefully, he began moving the brush through her hair, grabbing locks of it as needed to work out any tangles he might encounter. Thankfully, due to her naturally wavy hair, there were very few that he had to contend with. “Elisabeta is pressing for a husband,” he stated quietly.
